Application Developer I - III

Primary Purpose: Performs routine and basic computer programming work, including the ability to read and understand simple database objects. Work involves analyzing system outlines to develop programs for computer applications; preparing and developing solution programs; documenting methods and procedures used in program development; and testing, correcting, and revising programs. Works under general supervision., 1. Analyze district needs as outlined by the Windham School District administration regarding detailed data processing equipment requirements and capabilities.

1. Analyze proposed automated data processes in terms of resources and cost justification.

2. Document existing and proposed computer applications.

3. Develop automated systems.

4. Code, prepare test data, test, debug programs and maintain complex applications.

5. Monitor and assist in the evaluation, maintenance and application development.

6. Document procedures used in the development and revision of computer programs.

7. Analyze, review, and revise programs to increase operating efficiency.

8. Monitor computer system performance to achieve maximum utilization of system software and hardware.

9. Research and review trade journals and information sources for current developments in computer software and equipment.

10. Assist in the training of other Information Technology employees as assigned by the Supervisor.

11. Perform other duties as assigned.

1. Maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information received in the performance of the job duties.

2. Perform duties in a professional manner through daily, punctual attendance at location of work assignment.

3. Follow Windham School District policies and procedures in completing assigned job duties.

4. Execute duties in a professional, ethical and responsible manner as defined in 19 TAC Chapter 247, Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with significant coursework in computer science (or related degree).

Each year of full-time, wage-earning application development experience in browser based or computer desktop environment may be substituted for thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university on a year for year basis.

This position requires personal technology that will enable the completion of job duties and responsibilities when working remotely.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of relevant application tools and program language as defined by current needs.

Knowledge of the practices, principles, and techniques of programming in a client server environment.

Knowledge of personal computer and network hardware, operating systems, software, and peripherals.

Knowledge of relational database structures.

Skill in the use of computers and related equipment in a a stand-alone or local area network environment.

Skill to write, test, debug and maintain computer programs.

Skill in problem-solving techniques.

Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.

Skill to perform detail work accurately.

Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies and organizations.

Skill to prioritize work in order to meet established deadlines.

Skill in technical writing and preparing technical reports and documentation.

Skill to develop custom applications for use in a stand-alone or network environment.

Skills to develop, implement, and evaluate standards and procedures.

Physical Demands:

Work inside and outside, noise, radiant/electrical energy, work alone, work with others, around machines with moving parts and objects, possible exposure to microwaves in use, exposure to hot and cold temperatures, exposure to dust and cleaning chemicals.
