Job description
We are seeking an experienced Power BI & Data Engineer to support the State of North Carolina on an urgent project. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in Power BI, data engineering, Azure cloud technologies, SQL, and IBM Curam. The selected candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and optimizing data pipelines, data models, business intelligence solutions, and interactive Power BI dashboards using modern cloud-based data platforms. This role will leverage technologies such as Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake Storage, Power BI, and integrations with Salesforce and/or IBM Curam/Oracle to support critical program and business requirements., * Design, develop, configure, and test interactive Power BI dashboards and reports based on business and program requirements.
- Develop and optimize scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes using modern cloud data platforms.
- Build and maintain Power BI datasets, dataflows, semantic models, and data models.
- Work with DirectQuery and Import storage modes and optimize Power BI performance.
- Integrate data from various enterprise systems, including IBM Curam, Oracle, Salesforce, and other structured and semi-structured data sources.
- Design and implement data solutions using Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), and Azure SQL.
- Work with structured and semi-structured data formats such as JSON, CSV, Parquet, and similar formats.
- Develop efficient and optimized SQL and PL/SQL procedures, queries, and data transformation processes.
- Perform SQL query optimization, performance tuning, and troubleshooting across data platforms.
- Develop data processing and transformation solutions using Python or Scala.
- Implement and optimize data pipelines using platforms such as Azure Synapse, Snowflake, or Databricks.
- Work with Delta Lake and modern data lake architectures.
- Apply data modeling and data warehousing concepts, including Star Schema and Snowflake Schema.
- Monitor data pipelines and troubleshoot data quality, performance, and integration issues.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, analysts, developers, and technical teams to understand requirements and deliver scalable analytics solutions.
- Ensure data solutions meet security, performance, reliability, and scalability requirements.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional experience as a Power BI Developer, Data Engineer, or in a similar role.
- Strong hands-on experience configuring, designing, developing, and testing Power BI dashboards and reports.
- Hands-on IBM Curam experience is mandatory.
- Experience supporting Power BI datasets, dataflows, DirectQuery, and Import models.
- Strong experience working with structured and semi-structured data, including JSON, CSV, and Parquet.
- Strong experience designing and optimizing scalable data pipelines using modern platforms such as Azure Synapse, Snowflake, or Databricks.
- Advanced SQL skills, including complex query development, ETL/ELT, performance tuning, and optimization.
- Strong proficiency in Python or Scala for data processing.
- Hands-on experience developing efficient PL/SQL procedures.
- Strong programming and scripting skills using SQL and T-SQL, with expertise in query optimization.

Solid understanding of Azure cloud services, including:
- Azure Synapse Analytics
- Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS)
- Azure Data Factory
- Azure SQL
- Azure monitoring and related tools
- Experience with ADLS, Delta Lake, data modeling, and data warehousing concepts.
- Strong understanding of Star Schema and Snowflake Schema.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills., * Previous experience working with State Government projects, particularly State of North Carolina initiatives.
- Experience working with IBM Curam and Oracle-based systems.
- Experience integrating data from Salesforce or other enterprise applications.
- Experience with Snowflake and/or Databricks.
- Experience with cloud-based data engineering and analytics architectures.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
