Job description

The Power BI & Automation Developer will design, build, document, and deploy production-ready reporting dashboards that consolidate marketing, digital sales, and ancillary performance metrics into a single platform. Working directly from briefs provided by the Amtrak analytics team, this role focuses on creating clean visualizations, writing field-level data documentation, and setting up lightweight automated workflows using Microsoft Power Platform tools. The developer will also lead maintenance handoffs to empower Amtrak’s internal team to manage dashboards post-launch., Design, build, and optimize production-ready Power BI dashboards adhering to Amtrak design briefs and iterative feedback.

Connect Power BI to enterprise data sources, configure access controls, and establish automated refresh schedules.

Implement simple automated workflows leveraging Microsoft tooling (e.g., CSV to Power Automate to Power BI).

Write comprehensive field-level documentation for each dashboard covering data sources, refresh cadences, DAX metric definitions, and known limitations.

Conduct technical handoff sessions for Amtrak team members detailing dashboard architecture and ongoing maintenance procedures.

Requirements

4+ years of hands-on experience developing enterprise Power BI dashboards and semantic models. Advanced knowledge of DAX, Power Query (M), data modeling, and visualization best practices. Practical experience building automated data workflows using Microsoft Power Automate. Strong technical writing skills with a focus on data dictionary creation and dashboard documentation. Background in marketing analytics, digital sales performance, or e-commerce reporting is strongly preferred.
