Job description
You’ll work closely with our data lead, supporting both the asset management and consulting sides of the business. The role spans three areas:
-
Data infrastructure (core focus) * Build, maintain, and improve data pipelines * Automate recurring data processes * Ensure the reliability and consistency of internal data flows
-
Internal tools & AI applications * Develop and extend Python-based internal tools used in consulting * Contribute to new tools for asset management workflows * Explore and implement practical AI/LLM use cases
-
Process automation * Automate internal processes end-to-end, with a focus on reducing manual work
This is a hands-on role: you’ll move from idea to implementation, and spend as much time improving existing systems as designing new ones.
A typical week
- Identify and build new automation pipelines; from understanding a colleague’s data problem, to proposing and co-creating a solution, to implementing, reviewing, and finalizing it
- Maintain existing pipelines and act as the go-to person for questions about them
- Brainstorm new products with the data team
- Track developments in AI/LLMs and look for ways to apply them to existing and new pipelines
- Contribute to internal consulting products, such as OrteliusAI
Working setup
- Small team of 5, with hybrid roles spanning data, consulting, and analysis
- You’ll work primarily with the data lead, with a strong focus on data engineering
- Priorities are set centrally, but you take ownership once the guidelines of a project are set
- Room to propose structure, improvements, and new approaches
Within your first 6-12 months
- Improve and stabilize key data pipelines
- Reduce manual workload through automation
- Deliver tangible improvements to internal tools or workflows
Requirements
- Master’s degree or Professional Bachelor’s with a strong analytical/coding component and a focus on problem-solving, ideally in a data context (e.g. engineering, IT, or applied sciences)
- Hands-on experience with data analysis and manipulation, whether academic or professional
- Strong working knowledge of Python (data manipulation, scripting, automation)
- Comfortable working with SQL and APIs
- A concrete data project you’ve built or contributed to (academic or professional)
- Good understanding of how to apply LLMs/AI to real tasks
- Proactive, creative, and not afraid to speak up with new ideas
- Dutch and/or English
Nice to have
- Experience with data pipelines or ETL processes
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure
- Familiarity with R, Microsoft 365, or workflow automation tools (e.g. n8n)
- Comfortable working with imperfect or unstructured data
- An interest in economics, asset management, or macroeconomics
Benefits & conditions
- Can translate problems into practical solutions without needing detailed specs
- Comfortable in an environment that’s still evolving
- Genuinely interested in building, improving, and experimenting
- Proactive about proposing new solutions
What we offer
- Real opportunity for self-development
- Direct, visible impact on a growing organization
- Help shape the future of data analysis for the organisation
- Autonomy over your projects
- The chance to apply the latest AI/data technology directly within a real organization
