Job description

As the IT Asset & Configuration Manager you will establish, lead and mature our IT Asset Management and Configuration Management capabilities, ensuring the organisation has the governance, controls and insight required to maximise the value of its technology investments while meeting regulatory and audit obligations.

This is a pivotal role that will take ownership of the full lifecycle management of hardware and software assets across the organisation. You will be responsible for developing the strategy, policies, standards and governance frameworks that underpin effective asset management, ensuring asset records are accurate, software licensing remains compliant and opportunities for cost optimisation are continually identified and realised.

Leading a team of Software and Hardware Asset Analysts, you will embed best practice asset management disciplines, creating a culture of accountability, accuracy and continuous improvement. You will work closely with colleagues across Service Desk, Engineering, Security, Procurement and Technology teams to ensure asset and configuration processes are fully integrated into operational activities, including joiners, movers and leavers, deployments, changes and service transitions.

A key part of the role will involve providing leadership insight and reporting on asset compliance, governance, financial optimisation and operational risk. You will also act as the organisation’s subject matter expert for software licensing, vendor audits and ITAM best practice, ensuring the technology estate remains compliant, cost-effective and well governed.

You understand the importance of asset intelligence and configuration data in supporting technology governance, operational effectiveness and regulatory compliance.

You bring a deep understanding of asset lifecycle management and are comfortable overseeing everything from procurement and deployment through to licence management, financial optimisation and secure disposal. You have experience managing software licensing across major vendors, particularly Microsoft technologies such as Microsoft 365, Azure, Windows and SQL Server, and are confident interpreting licensing agreements, vendor contracts and audit requirements.

You have a strong appreciation of Configuration Management and understand how accurate CMDB data supports effective change management, incident response, problem management and operational resilience. You are passionate about creating practical, valuable configuration models that provide meaningful insight without introducing unnecessary complexity.
