The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) provides a safe, reliable, and efficient transportation system that supports statewide economic growth and environmental stewardship. The Application Development unit supports this mission by delivering and maintaining critical software solutions for departmental operations. Associate Application Developers assist in developing, enhancing, and maintaining C# ASP.NET applications for NMDOT business units. They also support and troubleshoot Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) systems, ensuring stable performance and alignment with business requirements. Through these efforts, the unit helps provide reliable tools essential to managing transportation programs and services statewide.

This position exists to support NMDOT’s application development needs by assisting in the development, maintenance, and enhancement of department applications by providing technical support for systems and documentation. The role ensures that essential software systems remain reliable, secure, and aligned with the department’s operational and business requirements, enabling staff to effectively manage transportation programs and services statewide. How does it get done?
The primary responsibilities of this position will include:
- Assist in developing and maintaining C# ASP.NET applications for NMDOT business units.
- Support and troubleshoot COTS systems.
- Contribute to technical documentation, including system specifications and user guidance.
- Help diagnose and resolve application issues to ensure stable and secure performance.
- Support integration and configuration tasks for internal applications and COTS platforms.
- Collaborate with business units to gather requirements and ensure application functionality meets operational needs.

This work is performed for business units throughout NMDOT, including planning, design, maintenance, traffic, environmental, asset management, districts, and executive leadership. The position also supports external partners, services, and data shared outside the agency.
Requirements

Associate Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in software programming. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment. Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Supplemental Information
