Job description

A data engineer is responsible for building systems that collect, manage, and convert raw data into usable information to fulfill business needs., * Design, develop, and maintain optimal data pipelines leveraging open source tools and data processing frameworks that align with business requirements.

  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements.
  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data from a wide variety of data sources using (R)DBMS and Cloud technologies.
  • Maintain various codebases for tools and services used by other stakeholders.
  • Create analytics tools and visualizations such as dashboards and reports that provide actionable insights to stakeholders.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.
  • Ensure compliance with data governance and security policies.
  • Proactively improve encountered modules, services, systems and codebases.
  • Improve documentation in wikis and internal knowledge bases that is insufficient or incorrect and proactively raise spotted issues. This includes issue status tracking and documenting the resolution for future use.
  • Apply software development practices related to testing, style, readability, compilation, continuous integration, and continuous deployment.
  • Participate in reverse engineering of various data formats, often at the binary level.

Requirements

  • Proficient in multiple object-oriented and procedural programming languages.
  • Experience with Relational and non-relational databases. Desired experience includes advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL), data modeling, and common database interfaces (e.g. ODBC).
  • Strong analytic skills related to working with structured and unstructured datasets.
  • Experience with ETL (extract, transform, and load) systems.
  • Experience building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures and data sets.
  • Experience with data stored in various formats and locations.
  • Experience with automation and scripting.
  • Experience leveraging relevant open source and internal development and data-related tools.
  • Experience with cloud computing and storage.
  • Strong understanding of methods of securely managing and storing data to protect it.
  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Experience with version control systems and code reviews. Desired experience also CI/CD pipelines.

This is an entry-level position. We’re looking for someone with 1-3 years of experience in data engineering or software development with a general purpose programming language, has a BS degree in computer science or a similar area., * Bachelor’s (Preferred)
