Job description

The Senior Engineer - Lasers analyzes process, product, material, and equipment specifications and performance requirements for projects of high complexity. Under minimal supervision, leads the planning and execution of engineering and process development on laser workstations, and directs the transition of projects from development into production. Identifies and resolves complex design and process issues, mentors and guides technical staff, and leads cross-departmental teams on continuous improvement initiatives. This role also serves as a technical resource for Sales and NPI staff, providing training, project support, and troubleshooting expertise., * Define, plan, and complete assigned engineering and product development projects, including complex setup and process development on laser workstations.

  • Lead the successful transition of projects to production, supporting the Site Director in resolving ongoing production issues.
  • Provide technical training to laser operators and NPI staff, and mentor technical staff toward optimized solutions.
  • Lead cross-departmental teams in continuous improvement projects, taking ownership of assigned tasks across departments.
  • Support Sales through project routing for quotes and sales support activities, including presentations, customer visits, and technical seminars.
  • Generate and update setup sheets, work instructions, and CAPAs; conduct literature searches on relevant technical topics and provide summaries.
  • Monitor NPI Engineers and Technicians for technical effectiveness, providing assistance as needed, and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering/science, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience as an engineer in a medical device company.
  • Experience with industrial lasers (excimer, CO2, DPSS, ultrafast) and beam delivery systems; working knowledge of laser-material interaction for specific applications (e.g., laser welding).
  • Ability to generate machine motion control programs (e.g., G-Code) and proficiency with multi-axis motion controllers.
  • Ability to generate and interpret 2D/3D CAD drawings and models using GD&T.
  • Familiarity with ISO Quality Systems, particularly in medical device manufacturing.
  • Ability to create and troubleshoot programs for inspection devices and other auxiliary equipment; proficient with optical inspection equipment (magnifiers, microscopes, and measurement devices).
  • Strong ability to present and convey complex engineering concepts to internal and external customers, and create job-related documentation for quality purposes.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and processes, and work under minimal supervision.
