Founding Engineer

This is our client’s first engineering hire - a full-stack founding engineer who will own the entire technical surface alongside the technical co-founder, building and shipping across front end, back end, and cloud infrastructure while helping shape product direction as the company grows.

What you’ll be doing

• Own the full technical stack end to end - front end, back end, and cloud infrastructure.
• Design and ship EMR integrations connecting the referral platform to urgent care, ER, and specialist workflows.
• Build and refine the core referral flow so patients are routed to the right specialist quickly and reliably.
• Partner with the founders on product decisions, turning clinical and operational needs into engineering priorities.
• Set the engineering foundations, patterns, and practices as the first engineer on the team.

Tech stack: Python backend, modern front end, cloud infrastructure; EMR / healthcare data integrations.

• 3-5 years of software engineering experience (standout candidates with a little less will be considered; typically not a fit beyond roughly seven years)
• Strong Python with production backend experience, plus front-end and cloud comfort across the full stack
• A track record of taking a product or project from zero to one with end-to-end accountability
• Undergraduate degree from a U.S. university
• Authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship
• Able to work on-site in San Francisco five days a week at startup intensity, * Experience at a healthcare startup
• EMR integration or healthcare data standards experience
• A strong academic record or a standout early-career engineering track record

Our client is an early-stage (pre-seed) healthcare AI company building referral infrastructure that helps patients move from a primary or urgent care visit to the right specialist quickly and seamlessly. Their platform is already live across dozens of urgent care locations and piloting with a major U.S. health system, with deep EMR integration at the core of the product. It’s a small, fast-moving founding team taking on a long-standing gap in coordinated patient referrals.
