Job description

Position Summary: The IT Security Technician is responsible for supporting and maintaining the organization’s cybersecurity program, protecting information systems, networks, data, and technology assets from unauthorized access, misuse, and cyber threats. This position assists with security monitoring, incident response, vulnerability management, user access administration, security awareness training, and compliance initiatives. The technician works closely with IT staff, department managers, vendors, and end users to ensure security controls are properly implemented and maintained., Cybersecurity Operations

  • Monitor security alerts and events from firewalls, endpoint protection systems, Microsoft 365 security tools, SIEM platforms, and other security systems.
  • Investigate and respond to potential security incidents, malware detections, phishing attempts, and suspicious user activity.
  • Maintain endpoint detection and response (EDR) solutions across desktops, laptops, servers, and mobile devices.
  • Assist in the development and execution of incident response procedures.

Systems and Network Security

  • Administer user accounts, group memberships, permissions, and privileged access within Microsoft 365, and related systems.
  • Configure and maintain security settings for network infrastructure, servers, workstations, and cloud services.
  • Support multi-factor authentication (MFA), conditional access policies, and identity protection initiatives.

Vulnerability and Risk Management

  • Conduct routine vulnerability scans and coordinate remediation efforts.
  • Track security vulnerabilities and verify corrective actions.
  • Assist in patch management activities for operating systems, applications, and firmware.
  • Participate in risk assessments of systems and technology projects.

Compliance and Governance

  • Support compliance with organizational security policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Maintain security documentation, procedures, standards, and audit records.
  • Assist with internal and external audits.
  • Support security reviews of vendors, software, and third-party service providers.

Security Awareness and Training

  • Assist with cybersecurity awareness programs and phishing simulations.
  • Provide security guidance to employees regarding safe computing practices.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Document security incidents, remediation efforts, and lessons learned.
  • Create reports on security metrics, vulnerabilities, and compliance activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of system configurations and security changes.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related field required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred., * 2-5 years of experience in IT support, systems administration, network administration, or cybersecurity.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Azure, Windows Server, and endpoint management tools.
  • Experience with security monitoring and troubleshooting preferred.

Certifications (Preferred)

  • CompTIA Security+
  • Microsoft Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals (SC-900)
  • Microsoft Security Administrator (SC-300 / SC-200)
  • CompTIA Network+
  • Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
  • GIAC or CISSP

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and transport IT equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in office, server room, retail, warehouse, and event environments.
  • Occasional travel between organizational locations and events will be required.
  • Availability for after-hours support during security incidents or critical system outages.

Supervisory Responsibility: No supervisory responsibilities but may have lead/staff responsibility in the conduct of special projects.
