Mobile Software Engineer

We are seeking a Mobile Software Engineer to design, build, launch, and maintain DWELR’s mobile applications for iOS and Android. This role will focus primarily on React Native and TypeScript, with the goal of creating a high-quality cross-platform application that feels reliable, responsive, and natural on both operating systems.

You will work closely with DWELR’s Product Designer, frontend and backend engineers, product contributors, data and AI teams, and company leadership. An early priority will be turning the redesigned mobile experience into a production-ready application while helping establish the architecture, component patterns, testing practices, release process, and quality standards that future mobile development will follow.

The application will allow users to search rental properties, review property and landlord information, submit reports and supporting evidence, verify residency, save and monitor properties, receive alerts, manage accounts, and interact with future products such as DWELR INDEX and DWELR INDEX AI . It must make complex information understandable while clearly distinguishing verified records, user-submitted information, disputed claims, and AI-generated explanations. These capabilities expand on DWELR’s existing and planned workflows involving reports, city violations, landlord claims, review disputes, residency verification, notifications, subscriptions, public records, and evidence-backed residential intelligence.

This is an early-stage startup role with meaningful ownership. You will help make technical decisions, solve product and device-specific problems, manage iOS and Android releases, and take mobile features from planning through deployment and continued improvement.

What You Will Work On

• Landlord and property-manager claiming, verification, responses, disputes, and case-status workflows.
• Saved properties, monitoring, in-app alerts, push notifications, and deep links.
• Subscription, billing, entitlement, and account-management experiences.
• DWELR INDEX and DWELR INDEX AI experiences, including evidence-backed summaries, sources, confidence information, trends, comparisons, and follow-up questions.
• Mobile analytics, crash reporting, performance monitoring, and release-quality tooling., * Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain DWELR’s iOS and Android applications using React Native and TypeScript.
• Help define a practical, maintainable mobile architecture appropriate for an early-stage product expected to grow over time.
• Translate Figma designs, prototypes, product requirements, and user flows into polished production experiences.
• Collaborate closely with the Product Designer during the website and mobile-app redesign to ensure designs are technically practical and properly adapted for mobile use.
• Build reusable components, navigation patterns, forms, layouts, and shared mobile utilities.
• Connect mobile components to DWELR’s broader design system while respecting native iOS and Android interaction patterns.
• Integrate the applications with backend APIs, authentication, storage, maps, notifications, analytics, payment or entitlement systems, and other third-party services.
• Work with backend engineers to define stable API contracts, validation rules, pagination, error handling, uploads, and mobile-specific data requirements.
• Implement secure authentication sessions, protected screens, role-based experiences, and appropriate account-permission handling.
• Store tokens and sensitive application data using secure device-storage practices.
• Build dependable multi-step workflows for reports, verification, property claims, disputes, evidence submission, and account setup.
• Implement camera access, photo and document selection, uploads, compression, progress indicators, retries, and failure recovery.
• Develop map and location experiences using mobile geolocation, address search, markers, clustering, and property-detail navigation.
• Implement push notifications, notification preferences, device-token management, and in-app routing from notifications.
• Implement deep links so approved emails, notifications, and web pages can open the correct property, report, dispute, or account screen.
• Create clear loading, empty, offline, partial-data, permission-denied, upload-failed, and retry states.
• Use local persistence, caching, and carefully scoped offline behavior where they improve reliability.
• Integrate subscription and entitlement information with DWELR’s backend and support applicable mobile purchase systems when required.
• Protect sensitive information by preventing unnecessary device storage, logging, or exposure of private user data.
• Request location, camera, photo, notification, and file permissions only when needed and explain why access is requested.
• Apply mobile accessibility practices, including screen-reader support, dynamic type, logical focus order, sufficient contrast, large touch targets, reduced-motion considerations, and meaningful labels.
• Optimize startup time, rendering, list performance, navigation, image handling, memory usage, network requests, battery impact, and application size.
• Test across representative iOS and Android devices, operating-system versions, screen sizes, and network conditions.
• Write unit, component, integration, and end-to-end tests for critical journeys such as authentication, search, evidence upload, verification, saving properties, notifications, disputes, subscriptions, and AI-assisted results.
• Diagnose and resolve crashes, failed builds, platform-specific bugs, rendering issues, performance regressions, and API-integration problems.
• Integrate crash reporting, logging, performance monitoring, analytics, and release diagnostics in a privacy-conscious manner.
• Participate in code reviews and use Git-based source control, pull requests, automated checks, and CI/CD workflows.
• Maintain development, staging, beta, and production configurations, including application signing, certificates, provisioning, build numbers, environment variables, and release artifacts.
• Prepare builds for internal testing, TestFlight, Google Play testing tracks, and public App Store and Google Play releases.
• Respond to store-review feedback and address technical release blockers.
• Document architecture, setup instructions, native dependencies, release procedures, reusable components, and important technical decisions.
• Communicate technical risks, platform limitations, tradeoffs, and blockers clearly to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
• Monitor the application after launch, review user feedback, resolve issues, and improve the product over time.
• Balance startup speed with security, accessibility, maintainability, and the quality expected from a trust-sensitive housing application.

• Professional experience developing and maintaining mobile applications used in production.
• Strong proficiency with JavaScript or TypeScript.
• Experience building cross-platform mobile applications with React Native or a comparable modern framework.
• Strong understanding of component-based application development, mobile navigation, and application state.
• Experience integrating mobile applications with RESTful APIs and asynchronous data.
• Experience with authentication, protected screens, session management, and role-based user experiences.
• Experience building forms, validation, loading and error states, file uploads, and data-driven interfaces.
• Understanding of mobile application lifecycle, device permissions, network behavior, and platform-specific differences.
• Ability to build adaptive layouts for different device sizes and orientations.
• Familiarity with secure device storage and protection of sensitive application data.
• Experience testing, debugging, profiling, and optimizing mobile applications.
• Experience using Git and collaborative pull-request workflows.
• Understanding of iOS and Android build, signing, testing, and release concepts.
• Ability to interpret product requirements, user flows, prototypes, and Figma specifications.
• Strong attention to interaction details, performance, accessibility, visual consistency, and error handling.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with product designers, backend and frontend engineers, data and AI contributors, and nontechnical stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to take ownership of a feature from planning through implementation, testing, release, and post-launch support.
• Ability to work effectively in an early-stage environment where priorities and technical constraints may evolve.
