Job description
The Cloud Configuration Manager at Knight Federal Solutions Inc is responsible for
overseeing and managing the configuration management processes within cloud
environments, ensuring compliance with government standards and facilitating
seamless integration and operation of software and hardware components. This role
requires a strategic approach to configuration management, focusing on the rigorous
documentation of Configuration Items (CIs) and acting as the primary conduit for the
Technical Review Board (TRB) and Change Control Board (CCB). The manager will
serve as a critical gatekeeper, ensuring all cloud infrastructure modifications are
technically vetted by the TRB and formally authorized by the CCB prior to
implementation to maintain the integrity of the project baseline and actively prevent
configuration drift.
Responsibilities:
- Define and document all CIs, including software, hardware, and cloud-native
services within the project baseline.
- Compile comprehensive data into detailed approval packages, tailoring technical
architecture and security impact presentations for the TRB and
business/schedule justifications for the CCB.
- Act as the primary advocate and subject matter expert during TRB and CCB
sessions, clearly communicating functional or cybersecurity changes, assessing
risk and interoperability (and redundancy) between licenses and the cloud
environment, and outlining execution options.
- Submit, track, and shepherd all resulting change requests through the rigorous
TRB/CCB approval pipelines, ensuring strict adherence to governance
processes.
- Monitor the cloud environment continuously to identify and handle configuration
drift, executing remediation plans to either revert unauthorized changes or
formally route them through the TRB and CCB for retroactive approval and
documentation.
- Facilitate project rebaselining efforts when significant architectural, scope, or
regulatory changes occur, ensuring the new baseline is properly documented,
technically validated, and officially established via CCB authorization.
- Enforce CCB decisions by auditing the cloud environment post-implementation
to ensure the actual state matches the approved configuration baseline.
- Recommend process efficiencies, particularly in streamlining the TRB-to-CCB
workflow to support agile delivery without sacrificing compliance and assist in
knowledge sharing across all entities.
- Provide the Government with monthly configuration lists and board approval
metrics.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in configuration management, including direct
experience presenting to, serving on, or facilitating Change Control Boards
(CCB) and Technical Review Boards (TRB).
- Minimum 3 years of experience working with government agencies and adhering
to strict Government configuration and change management plans.
- Relevant Associate or Bachelor’s Degree or, supporting certifications and
relevant job or military experience of 4 years in lieu of degree.
Bonus points if you have:
- Strong understanding of configuration management principles, including CM
plans, CIs, and structured ITIL/Agile change management governance.
- Experience working in a cloud environment, preferably AWS GovCloud.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) principles or cloud posture
management tools used to detect and alert on configuration drift.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively
defend technical information before the TRB and seamlessly translate those
impacts for non-technical stakeholders on the CCB.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple
tasks and projects.
- DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification or higher (Sec+, CISSP, CASP, etc.) or DoD
8140 equivalent.
Security Clearance:
- Active Top Secret Clearance, preferred with SCI eligibility. The position may
require a Counterintelligence (CI) polygraph examination.
