Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Junior Ruby on Rails Developer to join our development team. This is a remote opportunity for someone with early professional experience who wants to strengthen their Ruby on Rails skills while contributing to real-world applications. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated developer eager to grow their skills in a fast-paced, agile environment while working on impactful projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and improve features in Ruby on Rails applications.
  • Write clean, readable, and maintainable code.
  • Troubleshoot bugs and assist with application support.
  • Use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to build and update user interfaces.
  • Work with relational databases and application data.
  • Participate in code reviews and collaborate with team members in a remote environment.
  • Write and maintain automated tests.
  • Document technical decisions, features, and development processes.
  • Learn existing systems and gradually take ownership of assigned features.

Requirements

  • One to two years of experience working with Ruby.
  • Some professional, internship, or project experience with Ruby on Rails.
  • Basic understanding of Rails conventions and the MVC architecture.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with relational databases and basic SQL queries.
  • Experience using Git or another version-control system.
  • Basic understanding of RESTful APIs and web application development.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, manage assigned work, and collaborate effectively while remote.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience with Hotwire, including Turbo and Stimulus.
  • Experience using Haml.
  • Familiarity with Active Record associations, validations, and queries.
  • Experience writing tests with RSpec or Rails’ built-in testing framework.
  • Familiarity with Bootstrap or another CSS framework.
  • Basic experience working in a Linux environment.
  • Familiarity with background jobs, Redis, or Resque. Exposure to Capistrano, Nginx, Passenger, AWS, or another cloud platform.
  • Understanding of common web security practices, including authentication and authorization., * Bachelor’s degree preferred, in computer science or related field. Above all else, we value practical experience, curiosity, reliability, attention to detail, and a willingness to ask questions and learn.
