Staff Android Camera Systems Engineer / Platform Architect

A growing engineering organization is seeking a Staff Android Systems Engineer to lead the architecture and development of Android-based embedded systems for connected devices. This is a senior, hands-on technical leadership role for someone who understands the Android platform from the bootloader through framework and application layers.

The ideal candidate has deep experience with Android platform architecture, AOSP customization, embedded Linux, security, device provisioning, OTA updates, and Camera HAL integration.

What You’ll Do

• Design and extend Android platform services and framework components.
• Define system architecture, service boundaries, and Binder/AIDL-based communication models.
• Architect Android boot flows from bootloader through application startup.
• Design secure provisioning, onboarding, and device management solutions.
• Develop OTA update strategies, software lifecycle processes, and rollback mechanisms.
• Define Android security models, SELinux policies, and permission frameworks.
• Lead architecture reviews and provide technical guidance across engineering teams.
• Drive scalable, maintainable platform solutions for commercial Android products.

• 10+ years of Android platform and embedded Linux experience.
• Strong understanding of Android internals and AOSP.
• Expertise in:
• Android System Services
• Binder IPC
• AIDL/HIDL
• SELinux
• Android Permissions Framework
• OTA Update Systems
• Device Provisioning
• Android Boot Process
• Camera HAL
• Strong development experience with:
• C/C++ and/or Rust
• Java/Kotlin
• Python and Shell Scripting
• Experience with Android framework modifications, system-level debugging, and embedded Linux platforms.
