Job description

Willow Behavioral Health is seeking a dedicated and compassionate PHP/IOP Outpatient Therapist to join our clinical team.

The therapist will provide individual, group, and family therapy to adults enrolled in our PHP and IOP levels of care. This position is responsible for conducting assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, facilitating clinically structured groups, completing timely documentation, and collaborating with the multidisciplinary treatment team.

The ideal candidate has experience treating mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders and is comfortable working within a structured outpatient setting. Familiarity with ASAM criteria, evidence-based treatment modalities, and clinical documentation standards is strongly preferred.

This is an in-person position based at our Madison, Wisconsin facility. It is not a remote or telehealth role., * Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial and clinical assessments to evaluate clients’ mental health, substance use, functional, and treatment needs.

  • Develop, implement, review, and update individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients and the treatment team.
  • Provide individual therapy to clients enrolled in PHP and IOP services.
  • Facilitate clinically structured therapy and psychoeducational groups.
  • Provide family therapy or family-support sessions when clinically appropriate.
  • Utilize evidence-based approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, relapse-prevention strategies, and trauma-informed care.
  • Apply ASAM criteria and other relevant clinical standards when assessing client needs and making treatment recommendations.
  • Monitor client progress, participation, symptoms, functioning, and response to treatment.
  • Complete progress notes, treatment plans, assessments, discharge summaries, and other required clinical documentation accurately and within established timelines.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and confidential client records in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Collaborate with medical providers, psychiatric providers, case managers, therapists, and other members of the multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Participate in clinical meetings, case consultations, treatment planning, utilization reviews, and discharge planning.
  • Identify and promptly communicate clinical, behavioral, medical, or safety concerns to the appropriate members of the treatment team.
  • Coordinate with outside providers, referral sources, families, and community supports when appropriate and properly authorized.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and support a safe, respectful, and recovery-focused treatment environment.
  • Stay current on evidence-based practices, ethical standards, confidentiality requirements, and developments in mental health and substance use treatment.
  • Participate in supervision, training, and professional development activities.
  • Follow all organizational policies, clinical protocols, documentation requirements, and applicable state and federal regulations.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, marriage and family therapy, or a related behavioral health field.
  • Active Wisconsin license, training license, or credential appropriate to the position.
  • Experience providing behavioral health treatment to adults with mental health, substance use, or co-occurring disorders.
  • Experience working in a PHP, IOP, residential, outpatient, or other structured treatment setting is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based therapeutic modalities and trauma-informed care.
  • Familiarity with ASAM criteria and the DSM-5-TR is preferred.
  • Strong clinical assessment, treatment planning, group facilitation, and documentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to manage multiple clinical responsibilities and meet required documentation timelines.
  • Compassionate, dependable, professional, and client-centered approach to care.
  • EMDR training or experience is preferred but not required.
