Job description
- Monitor the health, performance, and availability of AWS-hosted Linux and Windows servers, responding to alerts and troubleshooting issues before they impact operations.
- Perform routine system administration tasks, including patch management, software updates, vulnerability remediation, and system maintenance activities.
- Harden servers and applications in accordance with DISA STIG requirements, ensuring compliance with DoD cybersecurity standards and maintaining secure system baselines.
- Review vulnerability scan results, develop remediation plans and POA&Ms (Plans of Action and Milestones), and coordinate corrective actions with technical teams.
- Support Risk Management Framework (RMF) activities by collecting compliance evidence, documenting security controls, and helping maintain authorization requirements.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls, ensuring proper system access while adhering to established security protocols.
- Maintain configuration management standards by validating server configurations, documenting changes, and ensuring systems remain compliant with approved baselines.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and interoperability issues, working with engineers and cybersecurity personnel to quickly resolve incidents and minimize mission impact.
- Execute backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures, helping ensure system resilience and continuity of operations.
- Create and update technical documentation, SOPs, and knowledge articles to support operational consistency and knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate regularly with Air Force stakeholders, cybersecurity teams, cloud engineers, and system administrators to support continuous monitoring, infrastructure modernization efforts, and mission success.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. *(High school diploma+ 7 yrs Linux system administration experience may be substituted for degree)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience administering Linux enterprise IT systems.
- Proven experience as a System Administrator operating within an AWS environment.
- Hands-on experience supporting Department of War (DoW) or U.S. Air Force IT environments.
- Experience administering Linux operating systems (AWS Linux, Ubuntu) as well as Microsoft Windows Server environments.
- Must have extensive experience hardening servers and applications in accordance with DISA STIGs.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manipulate operating system components and optimize performance.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Must meet DoD 8140 qualification requirements. (e.g., Security + CE)
- Active Secret security clearance required.
SALARY RANGE: $90,000 - $100,000
The salary range for this position is determined based on qualifications, skills, and relevant experience. The final salary offered will be determined based on several factors including:
- The candidate’s professional background and relevant work experience
- The specific responsibilities of the role and organizational needs
- Internal equity and alignment with current team compensation
