Job description

An Insight Global client is seeking a Senior Release Engineer to support the development, packaging, validation, and lifecycle management of enterprise platform releases supporting mission-critical national security initiatives. This individual will serve as a key contributor to software configuration management, release engineering, software supply chain security, and DevSecOps automation efforts across highly secure environments.

Develop, package, validate, and maintain versioned enterprise platform releases. Assemble and manage release artifacts, including:

Infrastructure automation content (Ansible playbooks, roles, collections, Puppet modules, etc.) Kubernetes application deployments Helm charts Container images RPM packages Custom platform applications Supporting software dependencies

Manage software versioning, dependency tracking, software inventories, Software Bills of Materials (SBOMs), and release manifests. Maintain configuration baselines and ensure all platform components remain traceable, reproducible, auditable, and properly versioned. Validate release artifacts for completeness, integrity, and deployment readiness prior to release promotion. Coordinate vulnerability scanning activities for container images, operating systems, software packages, and application artifacts. Create and maintain Plans of Action & Milestones (POA&Ms) associated with software and infrastructure vulnerabilities. Ensure software supply chain integrity through validation of trusted repositories and approved security validation processes. Develop and maintain release documentation, including release notes, manifests, installation guides, upgrade procedures, rollback procedures, and SBOMs. Build and support automated release workflows using GitLab CI/CD and DevSecOps tooling. Coordinate release promotion through development, integration, testing, staging, and production environments. Support software configuration management activities throughout the software development lifecycle. Partner with Platform Engineering, Software Development, Cybersecurity, and Operations teams to ensure secure and repeatable deployments. Support RMF authorization, accreditation, and continuous monitoring efforts through accurate release documentation and vulnerability tracking artifacts.

Requirements

Active Top Secret (TS) Clearance. Ability to obtain and maintain SCI eligibility/access. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field with 10+ years of relevant experience; OR Master’s degree with 5+ years of experience; OR 15+ years of applicable experience in lieu of a degree. Experience developing or maintaining infrastructure automation using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, or similar Infrastructure-as-Code technologies. Experience supporting Kubernetes-based environments and containerized applications. Experience working with Git-based source control systems and development workflows

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

Experience with GitLab CI/CD. Experience with Harbor or other OCI container registries. Experience managing Helm charts and Kubernetes application lifecycle management. Experience with RKE2 or other enterprise Kubernetes distributions. Familiarity with: RMF DISA STIGs JSIG Secure Software Supply Chain Frameworks Configuration Management best practices Experience generating and maintaining Software Bills of Materials (SBOMs). Experience developing and tracking POA&Ms.
