Job description

The best cable techs don’t just pull wire - they build the infrastructure every business runs on. Our client is hiring an experienced Low Voltage Cable Infrastructure Technician to install, maintain, and troubleshoot structured cabling, fiber optic, and security/access control systems across commercial sites in the Reno area. If you can terminate Cat6 cleanly, splice fiber confidently, and walk a client through your finished work with pride, this role offers diverse projects and real variety - no two sites alike. Why You’ll Love It

  • Skilled work, not grunt work: Fusion splicing, Fluke testing, site surveys, and troubleshooting - your expertise is the product
  • Project variety: Commercial buildings across the region, from network drops to security systems
  • Independence: Run your own work orders, interface directly with clients, own your installs
  • Flexible engagement: Full-time or contract options available What You’ll Do

  • Plan, run, route, and terminate copper (Cat5e/Cat6) and fiber optic cable infrastructure
  • Diagnose and resolve network and telecom issues; perform cable testing and performance verification
  • Read blueprints, specs, and customer orders; prepare installation diagrams and site surveys
  • Review work orders with client contacts on arrival and walk them through completed work for sign-off
  • Maintain accurate documentation of installs, materials, repairs, and network layouts
  • Manage inventory of supplies, tools, and test equipment; prep materials for projects
  • Follow all safety regulations, building codes, and industry standards

Requirements

  • 2-5+ years of hands-on cable infrastructure installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Proficiency with Cat5e/Cat6 and fiber optic work - fusion splicing and termination
  • Experience with Fluke or similar test equipment for copper and fiber
  • Understanding of network architecture, LAN/WAN, and telecom systems
  • Bonus: security cameras, access control, and network equipment (routers, switches, servers)
  • Comfort working at heights, in small spaces, and across multiple sites
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean record; must pass background check and drug screen
