Sr. Software Engineer- Cloud Infrastructure and DevOps

Experteer Overview In this role you will contribute to Venmo’s Cloud Infrastructure and DevOps by designing and building AI-powered tooling. You will lead and mentor peers, influence engineering standards, and advance an AI-enabled tooling initiative that boosts productivity, reliability, and velocity. You operate with autonomy across the SDLC to deliver scalable, secure solutions. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate AI into development workflows, observability, and incident response. This is a chance to shape how AI helps engineering at scale in a globally connected payments platform. Compensation / Benefits * Act as project/system leader coordinating engineers on the project * Define technical tasks for teammates * Drive customer, operational, program, or service objectives * Proactively improve existing structures and processes * Balance priorities to identify optimal solutions * Condense repetitive patterns into generalized solutions * Collaborate with management to set engineering standards * Represent PayPal to partners, customers, or industry groups * Troubleshoot incidents and implement preventive measures * Lead by example to improve production operations * Develop and improve automation for infrastructure and configuration as code * Enhance reliability and stability of infrastructure and operations * Design and build AI-powered tools for runbook generation, incident triage, configuration review, and root cause analysis * Develop AI-assisted automation pipelines for provisioning, scaling, and deployment * Integrate AI into developer tooling, CI/CD, and observability platforms * Build internal AI platforms and APIs for other teams to leverage LLM/ML capabilities * Evaluate and drive adoption of emerging AI tools and models * Establish responsible AI practices including safety and observability of outputs Tasks * 5+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) * 3+ years operating distributed applications 24x7x365 in Cloud Engineering/DevOps/SRE * Extensive AWS infrastructure design and support experience * Hands-on experience with IaaS/PaaS solutions from AWS or similar * Proficiency in Python, Java, Bash, Go * Experience with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) * Strong communication to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences * Hands-on experience building with LLMs/generative AI (LangChain, LlamaIndex, OpenAI API, Bedrock or similar) * Experience with prompt engineering, RAG, and LLM evaluation * Experience integrating AI/ML into developer tools, CLIs, chatbots, or internal platforms * Familiarity with AI observability, safety, and responsible AI in production * Nice-to-have: ML model serving, vector databases, embedding pipelines Key requirements * balanced hybrid work model * generous paid time off * healthcare coverage for you and family * equity and/or incentive compensation * annual performance bonus * professional development funds
