Job description

The Design Engineer supports product engineering for Isoclima’s specialty glazing programs, with primary responsibility for designing the mechanical hardware that integrates our glass into customer assemblies. The role works closely with the Engineering Manager, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers to translate requirements into production-ready designs. The engineer also supports general engineering projects as workload requires, including new product development, tooling and fixture design, and test and certification activities., * Designs mechanical hardware and assemblies that integrate Isoclima glazing into customer products, from concept through production release.

  • Develops and maintains complete design packages: 3D CAD models, 2D production drawings with GD&T, bills of material, fastener and torque schedules, assembly procedures, and inspection criteria.
  • Captures field geometry when customer CAD is unavailable using 3D scanning and/or portable CMM (Romer arm or equivalent), processes the resulting point clouds and meshes, and reverse-engineers reference surfaces into production-ready CAD.
  • Collaborates with project managers, manufacturing, quality, and customers to translate requirements into feasible, cost-effective designs aligned with customer specifications and internal standards.
  • Coordinates with external design partners, fabricators, and component suppliers on drawing release, engineering change handling, and first-article inspection.
  • Supports prototype build, bench testing, and customer acceptance activities.
  • Supports additional engineering projects as assigned, including new product development, tooling and fixture design, sample preparation tooling, and shop-floor process aids.
  • Conducts tolerance analysis, material selection, and basic structural evaluations as required.
  • Maintains engineering documentation, including drawings, BOMs, ECNs, and design files.
  • Provides technical support during fabrication and installation phases, including troubleshooting design-related issues.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities to enhance product performance and manufacturability.
  • Ensures all designs meet industry standards, safety regulations, and customer requirements.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Teamwork?, * Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.

  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design producing release-quality drawings and bills of material for fabricated assemblies (entry-level candidates may be considered with strong internships or co-op experience).
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, or similar), including parts, assemblies, and production drawings.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and produce manufacturing drawings for sheet-metal, machined, and weldment parts.
  • Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities., * Direct experience with 3D scanning and/or portable CMM (Romer arm, FARO arm, Creaform, Artec, or equivalent), including device operation and scan quality management.
  • Experience working with point clouds and polygon meshes - registration, alignment, decimation, surface fitting, and reverse-engineering reference geometry into parametric CAD (Geomagic Design X, PolyWorks, SpaceClaim, or equivalent).
  • Experience designing mechanical hardware for integration into OEM or customer assemblies.
  • Experience in the glass industry or working with laminated, ballistic, or architectural products.
  • Familiarity with ballistic, impact, or environmental test standards (e.g., NIJ, SAE, UL, FMVSS, ECE).
  • Familiarity with document control processes.
  • Knowledge of engineering simulation software (FEA at a screening / design-guidance level).
