Software Engineer II

Experteer Overview As a Software Engineer III on the Chewy Plus Team, you will build and enhance complex features for a high-traffic pet-parent platform. You will work across microservices, batch jobs, and UI to improve customer experience at scale. You’ll mentor teammates, influence engineering practices, and collaborate with cross-functional partners to deliver reliable, production-ready solutions. Compensation / Benefits * Design and improve high-complexity components with focus on user experience, scalability, maintainability, and resiliency * Mentor teammates and collaborate with business and technical teams to deliver new features * Contribute to code quality and architecture guidelines, promoting collaborative solutions * Guide team on feature improvements and optimization across processes and operations * Communicate project status, risks, and technical trade-offs to stakeholders * Identify, isolate, and resolve software malfunctions in production * Lead by example in best practices and influence hiring as the team grows * Participate actively in scrum ceremonies (grooming, planning, demos, retros) * Contribute to on-call rotations and production issue troubleshooting * Travel may be required Tasks * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or related field and 7 years of experience or Master’s degree and 5 years of experience in software development * 5+ years of experience with Java and related frameworks (Spring Boot and/or Spring Webflux) * 5+ years building, deploying, testing APIs and microservices in distributed systems * Experience designing services and architecture aligned to best practices * 2+ years developing features using PostgreSQL or other SQL-based databases * Experience developing CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins or similar) * Experience with Playwright or similar automated testing tools * Proven technical lead experience including mentoring and delivering results * Experience with AWS and Terraform * Strong understanding of algorithms and data structures * Experience with high-performing, scalable systems * Ability to break down product requirements into defined tasks * Experience monitoring, troubleshooting, triaging production issues Key requirements * 401k with company match * equity grant * medical and vision and dental coverage * pet adoption reimbursement * unlimited PTO * paid holidays
