Job description

  • Play a key role in software quality improvement for customer facing websites
  • Validate that the corresponding websites can be verified on any mobile platform for consistency.
  • Manage test scenarios for website solutions
  • Write test plans and perform functional, standards and cross-browser compliance testing
  • Maintain a repository of test plans in the applicable test repository management tool
  • Ensure all work meets customer expectations and departmental quality standards
  • Identify and document all system errors
  • Maintain an active knowledge of software testing tools, standards and processes
  • Develop a wide understanding of Oncor’s core website systems

Requirements

Website testers are primarily responsible for testing and monitoring websites and web applications on multiple desktops, laptops, and mobile devices by applying quality-assurance methods. They must be detail-oriented, possess programming skills, and have a commitment to accuracy. They must ensure that the final product meets client expectations and meet various applicable guidelines., * Solid knowledge of IT process and standards.

  • Proven previous experience in testing web applications on a computer or mobile platform
  • Ability to define test cases from functional requirements
  • Well versed with mobile/website testing tools
  • Expert in cross browser/environment testing
  • Experience of specific tools and processes used in web software testing
  • Knowledge of web standards and technologies including accessibility compliance
  • Knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent planning, organization and time management skills
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to “think outside of the box”
  • An aptitude for ongoing learning and ability to develop skill sets
  • Professional, positive and results oriented approach
  • Knowledge of ADA Compliance

Technical Skills:

  • Software Development Lifecycle - Agile and Waterfall
  • Program Language (knowledge is a plus) - Java, HTML, JavaScript
  • Web Browsing debugging tools (Firebug, Dev Tools)
  • Test Case Management tools - qTest, ALM, JIRA
  • Web Testing Tools - Zeplin, Sketch etc

General Skills:

  • Technical skills - website testers understand software architectural concepts and workflows, know HTML or other programming languages, and can create technical documentation applicable to different software frameworks
  • Analytical skills - tracking and identifying bugs and defects, as well as analyzing data related to software testing are important parts of a website tester’s duties.
  • Problem-solving skills - because testing is often a complex process, website testers need to be able to troubleshoot any problems and devise methods to solve them
  • Quality assurance methodology skills - assuring the quality of websites or applications is a core duty of a website tester. In doing so, they apply the correct QA methodology to deliver the best results
  • Interpersonal skills - Individual contributor and a team player. Being able to communicate well verbally and in written form is key
  • Time management skills - once goals and expectations are set, website testing needs to take place in an efficient manner. Additionally, the website tester may work on multiple projects at one time, which requires good time management skills.
