Job description

AstroNetix is seeking a Junior Software Developer to support AX-Futures software development efforts. This role is ideal for an early-career developer who wants to grow fast, work on meaningful projects, and contribute to tools used in defense, space, training, operations, and business modernization. You do not need a clearance for this position, but you must be a U.S. Citizen due to the nature of future defense-related work. The right candidate is hungry, coachable, technically curious, and comfortable figuring things out without needing every answer handed to them. We are a small team, so this is not a “hide in the corner and write code” role. You will contribute, learn, ask questions, and help us build useful things.

Responsibilities

  • Support development of internal and client-facing software tools
  • Assist with front-end, back-end, database, and automation tasks
  • Build, test, debug, and improve web-based applications
  • Help translate user needs into simple, functional software solutions
  • Collaborate with operators, engineers, and business leads to understand requirements
  • Write clean, maintainable, well-documented code
  • Participate in code reviews and technical planning discussions
  • Troubleshoot bugs and support continuous improvement of existing tools
  • Learn and apply modern software development practices, including version control, issue tracking, and secure coding basics

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Foundational software development experience through work, school, bootcamp, military experience, projects, or self-study
  • Basic understanding of web development concepts
  • Experience with at least one programming language such as: o JavaScript / TypeScript o Python o Java o C# o Go

  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, APIs, or databases
  • Ability to use Git or willingness to learn quickly
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Good communication skills in a remote work environment
  • Ability to take feedback, learn quickly, and operate with professionalism

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with React, Next.js, Node.js, Django, Flask, FastAPI, or similar frameworks
  • Familiarity with SQL or NoSQL databases
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
  • Interest in defense, space, ISR, command and control, cybersecurity, automation, AI-enabled tools, or mission systems
  • Prior military service, veteran status, military spouse, ROTC, SkillBridge, or defense community experience
  • Experience building personal projects, GitHub repositories, websites, automations, dashboards, or apps
  • Basic understanding of secure software development practices
  • Willingness to support future cleared work if eligible

What We’re Looking For We are looking for someone who:

  • Learns fast and asks smart questions
  • Can take a rough idea and help turn it into working software
  • Is comfortable working in a small, fast-moving company
  • Cares about the mission and the people using the tools
  • Wants mentorship, responsibility, and room to grow
  • Has humility, initiative, and technical grit Translation: we do not need a wizard. We need someone who can become dangerous with the right guidance.

Benefits & conditions

Compensation will be based on experience, skills, and role fit.

Benefits (Full-Time) AstroNetix offers a growing benefits package, including:

  • Remote work
  • Health, dental, and vision options
  • Paid time off
  • Paid holidays
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Growth opportunities across AstroNetix, AX-Futures, and future mission programs
