Job description

At Schwab, you’re empowered to make an impact on your career. Here, innovative thought meets creative problem solving, helping us challenge the status quo and transform the finance industry together.

We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s).

The Schwab Technology Services (STS) Portfolio & Project Management (PPM) organization partners with business and technology leaders to prioritize and execute the work that drives Schwab’s most important strategic initiatives.

As an IT Project Manager you will lead medium to large-scale, cross-functional programs that enable business growth, technology modernization, operational excellence, and enterprise transformation. Your ability to build trusted partnerships, align diverse stakeholders, and drive outcomes will directly influence the successful delivery of high-impact initiatives across the firm.

In this role, you will orchestrate complex project delivery from planning through execution, ensuring strategic objectives are achieved within established scope, budget, quality, and timeline expectations. Using strong project management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, you will manage risks, financial forecasts, dependencies, resource planning, and integrated delivery plans while navigating a highly matrixed environment. You will collaborate closely with business leaders, technology teams, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and external partners to drive alignment, remove obstacles, and enable successful outcomes.

Success in this role requires the ability to communicate clearly across all organizational levels, lead through ambiguity, and influence without direct authority. You will leverage Agile practices, critical thinking, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver measurable business value while helping teams adapt, learn, and continuously improve. This is an opportunity to perform challenging, meaningful work while developing leadership capabilities, expanding your strategic influence, and contributing to innovative solutions that shape the future of Schwab.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of project management experience leading multiple medium to large, complex, cross-functional initiatives within product, technology, systems, or application development environments.
  • 5+ years of experience using project management tools and artifacts, including Microsoft Project, Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, project budgets, status reporting, and change management processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish project direction, mobilize teams, drive execution, and achieve measurable business outcomes.
  • Proven ability to build collaborative partnerships, influence stakeholders, and earn the trust of sponsors and senior leaders across a matrixed organization.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly and effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, critical-thinking, and decision-making skills used to resolve project challenges, manage risk, and navigate ambiguity.
  • Experience managing project financials, resource planning, delivery milestones, dependencies, and integrated project plans.
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and support teams while facilitating conflict resolution and driving accountability for results.
  • Solid understanding of Agile methodologies and experience partnering with Agile delivery teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the financial services industry.
  • Advanced knowledge of Agile, Scrum, and modern software development practices.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification and/or PMI-ACP certification.
  • Experience leading enterprise technology transformation initiatives.
  • Demonstrated business acumen and ability to connect project execution to strategic business objectives.
  • Experience managing multiple stakeholders with competing priorities in highly collaborative environments.
  • Generative AI experience and an understanding of how emerging technologies can enhance project delivery, productivity, and business outcomes.
  • Strong adaptability, learning agility, and ability to lead effectively in dynamic environments.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without employer sponsorship.
