Engineering Manager, Tools Technology

Experteer Overview In this role you lead mechanical development of new pipe preparation tools and maintain the global installed base, partnering with electrical engineering to add smart capabilities. You drive tool architecture, validation, and regulatory compliance across diverse environments. You’ll mentor a team of mechanical and mechatronics engineers and shape the Tools Technology roadmap in collaboration with cross-functional partners. Compensation / Benefits * Lead mechanical design for new pipe preparation tools from concept to production launch * Define tool architecture including frames, roll systems, actuation, depth-setting, guarding, and pipe support * Drive mechanical analysis (FEA, tolerances) and validation; oversee prototypes and Gage R&R * Ensure designs meet global deployment requirements (multi-voltage, EU Machinery Directive, CE/UKCA, UL, CSA) * Guide intellectual property strategy in collaboration with Patent Counsel * Collaborate with Electrical Engineering to integrate controls, sensors, wiring, and cabinets * Develop tools with embedded smart capabilities (groove measurement, pass/fail, remote diagnostics, Ethernet, HMI) * Maintain full installed base; manage field issue resolution, changes, and documentation * Lead and develop a team; manage multiple projects and performance reviews * Define and execute Tools Technology roadmap; align with commercialization criteria * Collaborate with Product Management to drive roadmap and portfolio initiatives * Foster cross-functional teamwork with Marketing, Quality, Manufacturing, and Field Service Tasks * B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent * Minimum 10 years in machine design or electromechanical product development * Minimum 5 years of direct engineering management experience * Deep expertise in machine and fixture design, hydraulic/mechanical actuation, and precision motion * Proficiency in SolidWorks; experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5) * Experience with FEA tools (SolidWorks Simulation, Ansys) * Working knowledge of PLC/HMI, wiring, and connected tool technologies * Familiarity with global safety standards (EU 2006/42/EC, UL 508A, NFPA 79, CSA, CE/UKCA) * Experience with FMEA and design validation Key requirements *
