Job description

Experteer Overview In this role you defend Verizon’s global network by leading security improvements and embedding robust design practices across core, edge, and access networks. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement defense-in-depth solutions and run regular security assessments to close gaps. The role focuses on strategic security challenges, incident investigations, and clear technical communication through playbooks and diagrams. This position offers the opportunity to shape security outcomes in a fast-paced, hybrid work environment and contribute to a mission of reliable, trusted communications. Compensation / Benefits * Lead the identification of security gaps and drive design, architecture, and implementation of security solutions. * Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and Planning to embed secure design patterns in deployments and major changes. * Tackle strategic security challenges and complex investigations with lead engineers. * Perform regular security control assessments to validate configuration effectiveness and address gaps from active hunts. * Convey complex technical concepts clearly to internal and external audiences and create essential documentation such as playbooks, Confluence pages, network diagrams, and MOPs. Tasks * Bachelor’s degree or 3+ years in network security or related field * Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, OSI model, and router security (control, data, and management planes) * Experience with routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, IS-IS) and protection against hijacking * Experience analyzing NetFlow/IPFIX data for traffic classification * Hands-on experience with network equipment from major vendors (Cisco, F5, Arista, Juniper, Palo Alto) * Scripting experience (Python, PowerShell, Perl) or network automation tools * Proven collaboration and project management skills in investigations * Strong written and verbal communication for cross-functional work * Willingness to work flexible maintenance windows as needed Key requirements * health and dental coverage * vision coverage * 401(k) matched * paid holidays * paid parental leave * tuition assistance
