Principal Data Architect

Experteer Overview As Principal Data Architect, you will define the VetSoft Analytics data architecture and lead the team responsible for end-to-end data movement from source systems to curated, reporting-ready data products. You will set standards, patterns, and governance to ensure trustworthy, performant, and cost-efficient data at scale, partnering with Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and Finance. You will influence dashboards, self-service analytics, and AI agents across the business and have the chance to grow the analytics practice and team. This role combines technical leadership with strategic impact in a global veterinary data platform. Compensation / Benefits * Oversee the end-to-end ELT data pipeline landscape, from ingestion through orchestration and monitoring, ensuring reliability and timely delivery * Lead the design and build-out of the transformation layer in dbt with modular, tested, documented models and conventions * Design and deliver curated, reporting-ready data sets for BI tools (Sigma) and AI agents with consistent definitions and semantics * Partner with cross-functional teams to translate business workflows into scalable conceptual, logical, and physical data models * Establish and enforce engineering standards for the data platform including code review, version control, CI/CD, automated testing, and documentation * Own data governance initiatives across metadata management, data lineage, data quality monitoring, and PII policies Tasks * 7+ years of experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or data architecture with leadership experience * Expert SQL skills and hands-on dbt experience with strong data modeling across relational, semi-structured, and unstructured data * Experience with cloud data warehousing platforms (Snowflake preferred), modern ELT/orchestration tooling, performance tuning and cost optimization * Python or equivalent scripting language a plus * Proactive ownership mindset with strong organizational and project management skills and a drive for continuous improvement Key requirements * Base salary target: 115,000 - 157,000 USD * Annual cash bonus * Health/Dental/Vision Day-One * 5% 401k matching * Pet insurance * Mental health resources, volunteer days off, stock program, foundation donation matching
