Job description

Experteer Overview In this on-site role at Northrop Grumman, you will lead engineering efforts for complex mechanical and electromechanical systems across development, production, and test. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate requirements into robust hardware, tooling, and documentation, while mitigating risks and driving cost-efficient design. You’ll influence the full lifecycle from concept to qualification, shaping high-stakes defense programs. This opportunity suits a technically versatile engineer who thrives on solving challenging problems and delivering impactful results. Compensation / Benefits * Analyze tooling/support equipment and propose solutions for repair, rework, or alternatives using modern manufacturing methods * Assess, interpret, and suggest changes to engineering drawings * Generate complex 3-D CAD models and BOMs * Develop design concepts for product development, production, integration and test * Lead design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) reviews; recommend geometry/material changes to reduce cost * Maintain technical documentation: specs, test plans, failure analyses, ECOs * Coordinate with suppliers and contract manufacturers for qualification and fit-checks * Support prototype build-up, fixture design, and tooling selection; oversee test-fixture fabrication and instrument integration * Analyze complex systems and electro-mechanical assemblies to recommend replacements or redesigns * Research and apply planning, design, development and testing of mechanical/electromechanical systems * Identify obsolescence issues and mitigate risks * Establish milestones and monitor master plans and schedules * Mentor junior engineers and lead technical efforts in cross-functional teams * Validate production tooling, fixtures, and automation; coordinate design changes with mechanical engineering * Translate customer requirements into hardware specifications across the lifecycle * Establish and enforce engineering standards and knowledge management Tasks * Bachelor/Master/PhD in STEM with experience as specified for Principal/Sr. Principal (minimum: Bachelor in STEM) * Experience with CAD modeling (NX, CATIA) * Experience in best fit analysis of aircraft structures * Basic knowledge of composites * Ability to mentor junior engineers * Experience in systems engineering across full lifecycle (requirements, architecture/design, integration, verification/validation, operations) * Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, JIRA, or equivalent) * Proven ability to lead technical efforts and work in cross-functional teams * Strong written and verbal communication; able to present to leadership/customers * Must be able to obtain and maintain DoD Secret / SAP clearance * On-site work requirement in Oklahoma City; travel up to 25% * Familiarity with automation scripting (Python) and tooling design for composite/metallic structures * Experience with Jira, Bitbucket, Gitlab, GitHub; Agile familiarity Key requirements * health insurance * life insurance * disability insurance * savings plan * Company paid holidays * PTO for vacation/personal use
