Staff Backend Software Engineer

Experteer Overview As a Staff Backend Software Engineer, you will lead the delivery of reliable, scalable services for audio/video hosting, monetization, and analytics at a global scale. You will own RESTful APIs, async workers, and the reliability of distributed systems, collaborating with product, frontend, and infrastructure teams. You’ll shape observability, testing strategies, and phased migrations while guiding Terraform and cloud changes. This role offers an opportunity to influence how AI is integrated into backend development and to drive impactful, cross-team outcomes. Compensation / Benefits * Lead design and implementation of RESTful APIs and async workers for publishing, media processing, SSAI and VAST workflows, imports, and reporting * Own reliability and performance of distributed systems including queue design, deduplication, backpressure, and operational logging * Guide data and integration decisions across PostgreSQL, Redis, object storage, and reporting data warehouses * Lead or contribute to Terraform and AWS changes affecting deployment, IAM, networking, observability, and phased rollouts * Raise observability with structured logging, metrics, Grafana/CloudWatch dashboards, and on-call alarms * Define and evolve testing strategy for critical paths, CI readiness, and risky migrations * Represent backend concerns in planning and reviews, communicating trade-offs to technical and non-technical partners * Anticipate scaling and complexity through phased migrations and safer defaults * Drive cross-team alignment to ship impactful work and establish engineering standards Tasks * 10+ years of backend engineering experience with ownership of large services or platforms * Strong Python experience and service-oriented design including APIs, background jobs, and idempotency * Hands-on experience with Celery and message brokers (AMQP, RabbitMQ) including heartbeats and retries * Strong SQL (PostgreSQL) and advanced Redis usage for coordination and concurrency * Cloud infrastructure experience with AWS and GCP; familiarity with Terraform * Containerization and deployment experience (Docker, ECS, Kubernetes) * CI/CD experience in cloud environments * Security-minded engineering with IAM, TLS for data stores, WAF and rate-limiting concepts * Experience with RBAC/ABAC or policy engines is a plus * Ability to operate under ambiguity, communicate clearly, and influence without authority * Experience in fast-moving, startup-like environments and building products 0*1 * Experience driving cross-team alignment and establishing engineering standards Key requirements * medical/dental/vision * 401(k) plan * paid time off * other benefits in plan documents * hybrid work arrangement included * equity or compensation details not specified
