AI/ML Engineer

Experteer Overview In this role you will design and develop AI-enabled software to deliver mission-relevant capabilities for the FAA BNATCS Program. You will work with cross-functional teams to build practical AI/ML applications, integrate LLMs and AI APIs, and advance backend services and data pipelines. You’ll translate prototypes into reliable solutions and contribute to intelligent orchestration and agent-based workflows. This is a hands-on, fast-moving engineering role focused on delivering impactful, production-ready AI-enabled mission tools. Compensation / Benefits * Design, build, test, and maintain AI/ML enabled applications and software components * Develop production-oriented software in Python and other languages as needed * Integrate LLMs, AI APIs, and model-driven services into tools, workflows, and user-facing capabilities * Contribute to backend services, orchestration logic, data processing pipelines, and UI features * Collaborate with internal Labs teams to transition concepts into reliable solutions * Support implementation of Agentic AI workflows and intelligent orchestration patterns * Write clean, maintainable, extensible code and promote sound engineering practices * Participate in tradeoff discussions on tools, frameworks, architecture, and implementation approach * Help troubleshoot and refine system performance, usability, and integration points * Work effectively in a fast-moving environment where requirements evolve Tasks * Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD with relevant AI/ML engineering experience * Strong software development experience with Python * Experience in other languages (C, C++, JavaScript, Go) * Proven track record delivering technical software in professional, research, or mission contexts * Experience integrating LLMs at the API level into applications or workflows * Familiarity with modern AI/ML development patterns (model integration, orchestration, prompting, agent-based concepts) * Familiarity with agentic AI concepts and autonomous workflows * Strong analytical problem-solving skills and adaptability * US Citizenship with ability to obtain FAA Public Trust * Willingness to be local to Herndon, VA Key requirements * base pay * discretionary bonus * overtime eligibility * shift differential * health benefits * retirement plans
