Lead Engineer - Cloud Security (Software Engineering)

Experteer Overview As Lead Engineer on Target’s Cloud Security team, you will own the software that turns security signals into actionable remediation. You will guide the backend services that ingest, enrich, and route findings, partnering with platform and product engineers to scale trust and automation. Compensation / Benefits * Lead the software portfolio for the Cloud Security team, setting technical direction, standards, and roadmap * Design, develop, and operate the findings pipeline that ingests and routes security signals * Build scalable backend services in Kotlin, Java, and Spring Boot with clear APIs and observability * Own ownership-attribution data model, sources of truth, and reconciliation logic end-to-end * Reduce noise in findings via deduplication, correlation, suppression, and enrichment * Integrate services with enterprise ecosystems: SIEM/SOAR, remediation platforms, ticketing, CI/CD * Operate production services with defined SLOs, on-call rigor, and performance monitoring * Collaborate with platform engineers on CSPM/CNAPP, IaC scanning, and SSPM to align APIs and contracts * Mentor engineers on backend, distributed systems, and secure software practices * Drive multi-quarter roadmaps from framing to rollout and steady-state operation * Make build-vs-buy decisions and govern third-party components * Treat software as a product with focus on automation, self-service, and scalable remediation * Improve developer experience through clean contracts and robust APIs * Establish engineering patterns and standards for APIs, event streams, data models, testing, and observability * Guide database schema evolution, data migrations, and cloud data warehouse design * Communicate roadmap and tradeoffs to leadership and staff engineers * Represent the team’s work clearly for both executives and engineers * Mentor others on cloud security software practices and code quality * Evaluate emerging technologies, including AI-assisted engineering tools Tasks * 4+ years of software engineering experience with leadership in backend systems * Deep experience with Kotlin, Java, and Spring Boot; fluency in an additional modern language * Proven track record as a tech lead delivering enterprise-scale software * Experience designing and operating distributed, event-driven backend services * Strong REST APIs design and service-to-service integration experience * Experience building and operating findings or telemetry pipelines with SLA delivery * Production services with clear SLOs, on-call, and change management * Roadmap leadership from problem framing to rollout and steady-state operation * Strong build-vs-buy judgment and experience with cloud-native architectures * Relational databases, cloud data warehouses, and data migrations; Kafka/Public Sub * Public cloud experience (GCP preferred; AWS/Azure valued); Docker and Kubernetes * Automated testing discipline across unit/integration/contract/end-to-end * Observability practices: metrics/logging/tracing/alerting and SLOs * CI/CD, source control, and ticketing integration at scale * Secure software development practices; AI/ML awareness for engineering tools * Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication; leadership presence * Experience with CSPM/CNAPP, IaC scanning, admission control, SSPM, or cloud workload protection (preferred) * Experience with SIEM/SOAR integrations and policy-as-code (preferred) Key requirements * comprehensive health benefits * 401(k) * employee discount * short-term disability * long-term disability * paid sick leave
