Job description

As IT Area Lead, you will lead multiple engineering teams responsible for strategic HR platforms, HR data capabilities, integrations and secure platform services, including:

  • Workday and other SaaS HR solutions
  • HR Data Lake engineering and data platform capabilities
  • HR integrations, security and platform services

Your teams are located across the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, the UK and India, with an overall area size of approximately 50 people.

Roles and responsibilities

As IT Area Lead, you are accountable for the strategy, delivery, resilience, people leadership, stakeholder alignment and financial steering of ING’s global HR Technology area.

You will be a member of the Corporate Technology management team within the People & Hubs CIO organisation in the Netherlands.

  • Set the HR Technology strategy and roadmap: translate business and technology strategy into clear priorities, scalable solutions and measurable outcomes that improve employee experience, HR process efficiency and global platform scalability.
  • Ensure secure, reliable and compliant HR technology services: take end-to-end accountability for continuity, lifecycle management, IT risk, security, data quality and operational excellence across HR platforms and data capabilities.
  • Lead global delivery and transformation: drive predictable delivery of strategic initiatives such as the Workday Global Rollout, HR Data Lake capabilities, integration improvements and platform standardisation, balancing enterprise standards with local business needs.
  • Lead and develop high-performing teams: empower Team Managers, engineers and chapters across locations, strengthening leadership capability, succession, engineering excellence, automation, AI, security and responsible data practices.
  • Manage stakeholders, portfolio and budget: build trusted partnerships with HR, People Services, Product Families and Tech leadership, steer the area budget and improve transparency, prioritisation, decision-making and portfolio predictability.

Requirements

We hire smart people like you for your potential. Our biggest expectation is that you’ll stay curious. Keep learning. Take on responsibility. In return, we’ll back you to develop into an even more awesome version of yourself.

  • Strategic leadership mindset, with the ability to make clear choices, create focus and mobilise teams around shared outcomes.
  • 10+ years of senior technology leadership experience, including leading managers and multi-location engineering teams.
  • Strong engineering background and experience in complex, large-scale technology environments, with a focus on reliability, automation, security and operational excellence.
  • Experience with HR technology platforms such as Workday, SaaS ecosystems, integration patterns, HR data capabilities and privacy-sensitive people data.
  • Strong understanding of modern architecture patterns, engineering practices, platform-based ways of working and reuse across countries.
  • Proven ability to manage trade-offs between customer value, delivery, risk, technology health, people capacity, budget and cost efficiency.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to create clarity, bring structure and align senior stakeholders across Tech and Business up to C-level.
  • Experience delivering complex IT transformation or innovation programmes across domains, preferably in global and multicultural environments.
