Job description

Experteer Overview In this role you will develop and validate efficient embedded software for power electronics, such as motor drives and battery management, within Dyson’s Research team in Malmesbury. You will work with multidisciplinary engineers to bring ideas to prototype level and support transfer to development teams. You’ll design demonstrations, mentor junior staff, and push innovative concepts from concept to proof-of-concept. You’ll apply a structured, creative approach to technical challenges and collaborate across functions to deliver embedded software for next-gen Dyson products. Pay / Benefits * Develop and validate embedded software for power electronic systems (motor drives, battery management, chargers, heater control) * Create and optimize resource-efficient software on microcontrollers * Lead an electronics software research project * Explore emerging technologies via papers, patents, and external partnerships * Design, build, test demonstration rigs and prototype systems to assess feasibility * Mentor Dyson Institute students and junior engineers * Evaluate current and next-gen microcontrollers to optimize cost, size, efficiency, performance * Prepare technical reports and present concepts, test results, and recommendations to stakeholders * Plan activities with cross-functional teams and own technical delivery of embedded software * Identify technical risks and propose mitigation and continuous improvement strategies Tasks * Degree in Electronic Engineering or related discipline with relevant experience * Experience in at least one of: motor drives, inverters, SMPS, heater control, chargers, USB Power Delivery, battery management, or power transfer * C/C++ programming for embedded systems (essential) * Experience with ARM-based microcontrollers and microprocessors * Assembly/machine code (desirable) * MCU analogue data acquisition for high-speed signals * MATLAB or Python for simulation, data acquisition, and analysis * Experience with agile working using Atlassian tools (desirable) * Experience creating verification and validation plans and structured testing * Experience using laboratory equipment for electrical measurements * Experience safe lab work with mains voltage and high-speed machines (desirable) * Fluent English; strong communication and interpersonal skills * Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team * Ability to communicate complex concepts to diverse stakeholders Key requirements * Performance-related bonus scheme * Competitive pension * Life assurance * Free bus travel to campus * 27 days’ holiday * Private medical insurance
