Job description

Experteer Overview In this role you will design and build distributed software systems that coordinate manufacturing hardware for the Matter Compiler platform. You will drive architecture decisions, implement real-time controls, and collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and process engineers to translate physical constraints into robust software. Your work will enable safe, scalable programming of the fab and enable AI-enabled process optimization. This is a high-impact blend of software, systems, and manufacturing in a cutting-edge micromachining context. Compensation / Benefits * Design and build distributed software systems to coordinate state, timing, and behavior across manufacturing hardware * Develop and test sensors, actuators, and process controllers under real-time and reliability constraints * Create workflows bridging manual and automated process steps and manage production-process handoffs * Evolve the existing system with API development to govern machine behavior as architecture converges * Instrument systems for machine and process data suitable for AI/ML consumption * Investigate and resolve issues spanning software, firmware, and physical systems * Establish and model software engineering practices (testing, code review, CI/CD, documentation) * Improve system reliability through observability, fault handling, and graceful degradation * Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and process engineers to translate constraints into resilient software * Partner with leadership to converge competing architectural visions into a single direction Tasks * 5+ years building or debugging systems with real external dependencies (hardware, embedded devices, networked services) * Track record in making and defending architecture decisions (build vs. buy, deployment topology, service boundaries) * Strong Python skills for production systems, plus proficiency in C++, Rust, or Go * Solid grounding in distributed systems fundamentals: state coordination, consistency, failure modes, concurrency * Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, or observability tooling in a codebase lacking them * Comfort operating against incomplete or contested specs with a bias toward clarity * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or related field, or equivalent experience Key requirements * equity * benefits * salary range $180,000-$230,000 USD
