Job description

This is geographic information systems (GIS) work at the technician level. An employee in this role supports GIS specialists and analysts in the production of geospatial data using Esri’s ArcGIS suite of products and underlying databases. The employee assists with the maintenance and production of departmental geospatial data and maps and contributes to meeting the geospatial information needs of the organization. Work includes supporting the production of geospatial data, open data, maps, graphics, and presentation material., * Support and contribute to GIS and geospatial projects under the direction of senior GIS staff.

  • Analyze spatial data, identify issues, and escalate findings with clear documentation.
  • Prepare and present well-organized written reports and maps for internal stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers and team members.
  • Assist with GIS-related projects, including data collection, processing, and quality control.
  • Communicate technical GIS concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new methods, techniques, and procedures under guidance from senior staff.
  • Perform data entry, editing, and maintenance tasks to ensure geospatial datasets remain accurate and current.
  • Assist with the collection and processing of GPS and field data using mobile hardware and associated collection software.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Spatial analysis?, Do you have a Associate’s degree?, * Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or a related field preferred; equivalent hands-on experience considered.

  • Familiarity with Esri’s ArcGIS suite of products, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
  • Basic knowledge of the methods, techniques, and procedures used in the maintenance and production of geospatial data and maps.
  • Understanding of the principles and practices of geographic data analysis.
  • Experience or coursework in collecting and processing GPS and field data with mobile hardware and associated collection software.
  • Foundational GIS concepts and spatial data management skills.
  • Familiarity with geographic data formats, including importing and exporting data (e.g., csv, kml, geojson), and working with personal and enterprise geodatabases or text files in Excel and ArcGIS.
  • Awareness of emerging GIS technologies and their applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn in a collaborative team environment.
