Product Designer | UI/UX | Mobile Products

This PE-backed vertical SaaS company builds all-in-one software for independent specialty retailers and has been the best-known name in its market for nearly 30 years. They are in the midst of a major overhaul and the platform is modernizing fast: mobile and integrated payments are coming soon, a full migration from legacy desktop to cloud SaaS is underway, and a company rebrand is in progress. This is the first design hire in company history; every product decision to date has been made by engineers. This incoming Product Designer owns the design foundation from day one and partners directly with a new Head of Product (hired in tandem) and front-end engineering.

What You Will Own

• Build the component library and style guide from scratch, the design system for every product built going forward
• Own UX for the mobile app and integrated payments launch
• Organize complex business data into clean, navigable interfaces for non-technical SMB users
• Partner with front-end engineers on spec-accurate builds and design documentation
• Serve as internal design partner on the company rebrand alongside marketing and an agency

This role is a strong fit for mid-level Product Designers or UX Designers with SaaS experience who have designed for non-technical or SMB users.

• Portfolio to share (ideally demonstrating the full problem-solving process from discovery through delivery, not just visual output)
• Designed for non-technical users; usability and clarity are the standard, not visual polish
• Information architecture experience organizing complex data into clean, navigable interfaces
• Mobile and responsive web design across SaaS products
• AI-native design workflow
• East Coast time zone (ET preferred, CT workable)

Plus Skills

• 0-to-1 product design or major platform redesign experience
• POS, retail, or system-of-record product background
