Job description

Want to work at a tech company where your contribution saves lives? Are you looking for a work- life balance, and the opportunity to work with smart people? Then we should talk. Meteorcomm is a growing global telecommunications company that provides data solutions for the railroad industry. We’re not a start-up, and not a Fortune 500 company. Basically, we offer the best of both worlds! As an Application Architect you will be a key member of the architecture team focused on the end to end functionality of the entire ITC Communications System. Responsibilities include working with customers to understand their needs, creation of conceptual designs for solutions to those needs, resolution to design and technology issues throughout the project realization, and driving the technical aspects of the overall integration test strategy and plans. Major Duties: Participate in the gathering and clarification of requirements and use cases for end to end system functionality (may require travel to customer locations). Create conceptual design solutions that will balance customer goals and needs with technical constraints. Identify and resolve system level issues, especially those that cross sub-system boundaries. Support a change control process throughout the product lifecycle. Identify and coordinate the resolution of emergent issues throughout the project lifecycle. Ensure design integrity of the end to end system solution. Drive the high-level test strategy and support creation of integration test plans. Clearly communicate designs and changes to technical teams including engineering, testing, and customer organizations. Supervisory Requirements Perform tasks listed above under minimal supervision. Receive general direction from principal systems architect and program manager. Authority and Responsibility Has authority to make decisions within the scope of the tasks assigned as long as they conform to the guidelines of the principal systems architect and program manager. Suggestions for new ideas and new ways of doing things are welcomed and will be considered, but are subject to management approval. Essential

Requirements

Minimum of a BS degree in engineering, computer science, or related field. 7+ years experience working as a software architect. Detailed understanding of messaging middleware and system management applications. Knowledge of Ethernet networks, TCP/IP, and other communication protocols. Aptitude to learn new technologies quickly and desire to excel. Well-honed analytical thinking and attention to detail. Proven skill in creation of conceptual design solutions. Ability to work independently within a team-oriented environment. Ability to work well with engineers and technical people. Demonstrated ability to present to executive level. Excellent English written and verbal communication skills. Desirable: 4+ years of experience with communications system development. Knowledge of wireless / data radio technology. EEO Employer/Protected Veteran/Disability
