Job description
The CARFAX Systems Engineer Team is looking for a Linux Systems Engineer to join us in our Centreville, VA office. Successful candidates will have experience in one or more of the following technologies - Linux, SAN, VMWare and Windows, will be team oriented and will excel in a fast-paced and agile work environment. The selected candidate will join a highly functional team oriented to designing, implementing, maintaining and managing CARFAX mission critical systems. Daily duties will include administering Linux servers, virtual systems, operating system software, patching & updating, security administration, and integrating automation. As a System Engineer you will be involved in the day-to-day operations of the CARFAX server infrastructure that is critical to our customer base. Other duties could include determining departmental strategies, participation in development projects, server administration, incident and problem resolution, software administration, backup/restore activities and documentation. We even provide the dog beds, bowls and of course, toys! AS A SYSTEM ENGINEER YOU WILL:
- Have responsibility for incident and problem management, tuning, maintenance, security, and management of Linux and Windows servers and SAN environments
- Support CARFAX’s Data Center strategies of using industry best practices, standardization, centralized monitoring and management of CARFAX’s server environments
- Install/update/maintain/document new and existing Linux, Windows and VMware servers
- Respond to business needs by effectively gathering requirements, analyzing relevant data, recommending a design and getting team consensus in a timely manner
- Maintain current knowledge of relevant product offerings and technologies
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in Linux server design and administration in a large server environment.
- Experience using server automation and management tools such as Chef, Puppet, Foreman, or similar technologies, including the ability to create jobs, packages, import devices and deploy servers
- Experience with Linux and Windows server design and administration
- RHEL/CENTOS 7 experience preferred.
- Experience using cloud based technologies like the AWS, Google, or Azure.
- Demonstrated ability to write code to automate repeatable processes using scripting languages like Bash, Powershell, Ruby, JavaScript, or Python.
- Experience with VMware is a plus
- Ability to identify deficient processes/procedures then develop and implement improvements
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects; both short and long term
- A self-starter, highly committed to providing excellent customer service in a team environment
- Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with team and others in clear, concise, and timely manner
