Systems Administrator

We are seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Systems Administrator to join our innovative IT team. • Design, implement, and maintain system architecture solutions utilizing virtualization platforms like VMware and ESXi, along with container orchestration tools such as Kubernetes.
• Administer databases including MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server, ensuring data integrity, security, and optimal performance.
• Configure and support network components such as firewalls, VPNs, DNS, DHCP, load balancers, and computer networking protocols to guarantee secure connectivity.
• Develop automation scripts using Bash (Unix shell scripting), Python, PowerShell, or Shell Scripting to streamline system management tasks.
• Implement DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Git repositories, and solution architecture principles aligned with SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle).
• Maintain information security standards by managing firewalls, access controls, RESTful APIs integration, and adhering to best practices in cybersecurity.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on system design projects involving microservices architecture utilizing REST APIs and NoSQL databases like Cassandra or MongoDB.
• Support cloud infrastructure deployments on AWS and Azure platforms while ensuring compliance with best practices for cloud security and resource management.
• Conduct regular system audits, performance tuning, load balancing adjustments, and disaster recovery planning to uphold operational excellence.
• Be able to provide on-site support at University of Missoula Forestry Sciences Lab, and available for emergency after-hours support.
• Maintain ongoing design and configuration documentation for the network environment, provided annually or as needed to the DNMS technical team.
• Perform other agency-specific logistics services for network and other infrastructure support.
• Provide Discovery Network status updates.
• Communicate and advise on roadmap by engaging appropriate CIO branch/staff as necessary.
• Be the on-site POC for the CIO regarding all Discovery Network documentation, assessments, and inquiries.
• Supervise other personnel and manage projects and other tasks as needed.

Do you have experience in System design?, * Proven experience in system administration across diverse operating systems including Windows Server, Linux distributions (Ubuntu, CentOS), and UNIX environments.

• Strong knowledge of system architecture design principles combined with practical experience in solution architecture for enterprise environments.
• Hands-on expertise with virtualization technologies such as VMware ESXi and containerization tools like Kubernetes.
• Proficiency in scripting languages including Bash (Unix shell), Python, PowerShell or Shell Scripting for automation purposes.
• Familiarity with database management systems such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle PL/SQL or Microsoft SQL Server.
• Deep understanding of computer networking concepts including VPNs, DNS/DHCP management, load balancing techniques, firewalls, and network security best practices.
• Experience working within an Agile environment utilizing DevOps tools like Jenkins and Git for continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD).
• Knowledge of RESTful API development and integration alongside microservices architecture principles.
• Ability to manage IT infrastructure on cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure while implementing scalable solutions aligned with business needs.
