Job description
Drive the cross-element software architecture for a novel medical robotic platform, connecting robot control, clinical workflow applications, joystick control, compute platforms, cybersecurity, suppliers, and regulated lifecycle processes.
- You will define and maintain the overall Robotic Procedure Automation software system architecture across Control Software, HW UI, Interventional Application, Teleoperation Infrastructure, AI infrastructure, compute units, system interfaces, development tools, and released software baselines.
- You will shape long-term architecture and process readiness for product lifecycle management, including software configuration management, software-relevant bill of materials, deployment architecture, version compatibility, and documentation synchronization.
- You will own the cross-element architecture for safety allocation, cybersecurity, requirements traceability, system interfaces, SOUP governance, development tool validation, and verification readiness in a regulated medical-device environment.
- You will technically govern vendor-delivered and partner-delivered work, especially for UI and infrastructure-related deliverables, by defining architecture constraints, interface expectations, acceptance criteria, and validation evidence.
- You will collaborate closely with software, system engineering, Quality Management System, cybersecurity, verification, compute engineering, suppliers, and lifecycle stakeholders in NL and US, and the broader Image Guided Therapy organization.
Requirements
- You’ve acquired 10+ years of experience in software architecture, software system architecture, system engineering, or regulated medical-device software development, ideally in complex embedded, connected, or hardware-integrated systems.
- Your skills include end-to-end software software/hardware system architecture, requirements allocation, interface definition, configuration management, deployment architecture, supplier technical governance, cybersecurity architecture, and verification-oriented design.
- You have experience working under medical-device or similarly regulated quality systems, with working knowledge of IEC 62304, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, design control, traceability, risk management, and audit-ready documentation practices.
- You have a master’s degree or PhD in Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- You are a strong communicator and technical integrator who can influence across teams, suppliers, and sites; you are comfortable turning ambiguous system-level needs into clear architecture decisions, interface contracts, and execution plans.
We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.
This is an office role based in Best, Netherlands, with collaboration across Philips teams and suppliers in the Netherlands, Cambridge, and the broader Image Guided Therapy organization. Some travel (appx 15%) is required for cross-site planning, supplier alignment, and integration activities.
Benefits & conditions
Doing meaningful work should come with fair, transparent rewards. The base salary range for this role is €78.187 Gross to €130.312 Gross. Pay within the range is determined using objective factors, including the skills required, relevant experience, role responsibilities, internal equity and local market considerations. The role is eligible for a maximum 3% bonus, linked to KPIs and company results. The full reward approach will be discussed during the interview process.
