Job description

Experteer Overview In this role you will lead the architecture for distributed and edge computing software across ground, cloud, and onboard environments to enable future space systems. You will work with customers, stakeholders, and engineering teams to translate constraints into concrete technical solutions, focusing on security, scalability, and resilience. You will shape architectural baselines, drive trade-off analyses, and mentor teams to ensure design principles are followed. This position offers the chance to impact space programs within a global, innovation-driven environment and to work on cutting-edge digital twin and edge-to-cloud initiatives. Pay / Benefits * Define and maintain end-to-end software architecture and technical roadmaps for distributed/edge solutions across ground, cloud, and onboard environments * Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, and engineering teams to understand operational needs and constraints * Translate functional/operational constraints into clear technical specifications and architectural solutions * Design secure, scalable, and resource-efficient systems for challenging environments (limited resources, high latency, autonomous operation) * Define architectures for distributed/federated services supporting multi-site operations and digital twins * Lead architectural studies, prototypes, benchmarks, and PoCs to evaluate performance, resilience, security, interoperability * Maintain software architecture baselines, interface definitions, deployment models, and Architecture Decision Records * Produce technical documentation (C4/UML, architecture descriptions, API docs) * Ensure architecture consistency through software lifecycle and DevSecOps integration * Collaborate with cybersecurity specialists to embed security design principles * Support integration/validation activities for functional, performance, resilience, and security testing * Provide technical leadership during proposals, reviews, and engineering activities * Work with development/infrastructure/validation/DevSecOps teams to implement architectural decisions * Contribute to engineering governance via technical standards and mentoring * Evaluate emerging technologies for relevance and risk * Contribute to architectural governance and standards * Mentor engineering teams * Engage in requirements definition, architecture, implementation, validation, deployment, and evolution * Produce clear technical documentation * Communicate trade-offs to stakeholders Tasks * 5+ years in software architecture, systems design, or technical leadership in distributed/cloud-native/embedded/edge computing * Strong systems-thinking and problem decomposition skills * Experience designing complex software systems with multiple components and deployment environments * Distributed systems knowledge (fault tolerance, asynchronous comms, service discovery, data consistency) * Experience with cloud-native platforms, orchestration, networking, storage, observability, security, deployment * Resource-constrained environment software design (CPU/memory/power/footprint) * Programming experience in Go and Python; Rust or memory-safe language valued * Linux-based systems, networking, OS concepts, containerisation, secure workloads * Service interfaces and communication (REST, asynchronous messaging, event-driven, OpenAPI) * SQL/NoSQL, object storage, messaging, streaming, distributed data management * DevSecOps practices (Git workflows, CI/CD, IaC, testing, vulnerability scanning, release mgmt) * Tools: Docker, Git, Jira, Confluence, Postman * Software architecture modelling (C4, UML, ADRs) * Cybersecurity-by-design principles * Full software lifecycle experience * Clear technical documentation ability * Strong English communication, analytical and leadership skills Key requirements * competitive remuneration package * mobility policy enabling career development across locations * flexible working arrangements * being part of a large international space and digital ecosystem * opportunity to work on innovative space projects * dynamic, collaborative culture
