INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST (SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATION)

NH-03: The primary purpose of this position is to provide installation support for a variety of Information Technology (IT) activities. Performs services as a senior systems administrator: Plans, coordinates, and install applications software and hardware for operating systems. Provides technical guidance and instruction to users and other IT Specialist. Serves as a senior technical advisor to management. Maintains liaison with manufacturers, professional organizations and counterparts at other installations and services regarding available products and state-of-the-art technologies and advancements.

NH-02: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a developmental Information Technology Specialist under the direct guidance of a Senior IT Specialist, performing System Administration in support of assigned programs(s) or functional. This position is intended to develop individuals who can deal effectively with change and complexity within the Air Force environment as it relates to the Cyberspace & Information Technology (C&IT) career field; to perform the full range of SYSADMIN work, to apply the training and/or education received and complete developmental assignments and training outlined in the formal training & development plan.

The full performance (target) level of this position is NH-03. The incumbent will receive formal, informal, and/or on-the-job training in the specialty area, and assignments will become more difficult in nature. Assignments at this level are designed to provide the knowledges, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties at the full performance level. Non-competitive promotion to the next grade level is dependent upon: 1) satisfactory completion of the training requirements, 2) demonstrated ability to perform the duties at the next higher level, 3) fulfillment of all required legal and regulatory requirements for promotion, and 4) recommendation for promotion by the supervisor.

• The employee may be required to work extended or other than normal duty hours to include overtime, and/or days, swings, or owl shifts.

• The employee may be required to work during base exercises, contingencies or emergency situations.

• The employee may occasionally travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft IAW Joint Travel Regulations to other government installations, contractor facilities, or other commercial Locations for both training and mission accomplishment. Travel may include overnight stays.

Recruitment Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

1. Knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices for integrating information system components sufficient to plan, coordinate, and administer computer systems, and optimize system performance.

2. Knowledge of the latest advancements in technology to initiate corrective or preventative action to ensure optimum performance of the system.

3. Knowledge of performance tuning tools, database management, and project management methods sufficient to optimize systems performance, troubleshoot database performance problems, and perform a wide range of systems administration functions.

4. Knowledge of operating systems, associated devices, and the interoperability of systems sufficient to install, upgrade, troubleshoot, test, and maintain those systems; to optimize the functionality and performance of systems; and to ensure the availability, integrity, efficiency, and reliability of servers.

5. Ability to apply methods and practices for troubleshooting, recovering, adjusting, modifying, and improving systems to solve complex problems, provide support that minimizes interruptions in service to customers, and maintain liaison with industry and other activities to provide awareness of state-of-the-art technology.
