Job description

To support this function, you will assist with the administration, security, and governance of the company’s systems. This role requires technical skills across IT support, system maintenance, identity management, cybersecurity, compliance, and business continuity.

For an advanced candidate, or as one progresses into the skillset, this function will support the design, build, operate and administration of a growing suite of internally-developed solutions, ensuring they are secure, reliable, and maintainable as the business moves away from SaaS-only tooling toward a mixed estate of custom-built and third-party systems., Day-to-Day Operations

  • Monitor and triage support for hardware, software, and business applications, escalating where appropriate.

  • Assist our IT provider and be the company’s point of contact with the onboarding and offboarding of employees, ensuring timely provisioning of user accounts and devices, maintaining asset inventories, and software licensing.

  • Understand the company architecture, and support the implementation and maintenance of security controls, including multi-factor authentication, and device compliance.

  • Support the creation or improvement of operating procedures and technical documentation.

  • Assist with security monitoring, vulnerability remediation, patch management, and incident response activities.

  • Contribute to compliance initiatives, including maintaining evidence for audits, supporting regulatory requirements, business continuity and disaster recovery planning, assisting with IT risk assessments and implementation of risk mitigation actions.

  • Be willing to respond during project launches or to incidents outside of normal working hours, acting as a first point of contact when issues arise.

Project Support

  • Support with the scoping and translation of business requirements from non-technical stakeholders into working, well-structured solutions.

  • Assist the team to design and build internal solutions using AI (via Claude Code / Anthropic API / MCPs) and appropriate database engines (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar).

  • Integrate solutions with existing SaaS tools where needed (APIs, webhooks, data sync).

  • Plan out and own day-to-day technical operations for existing applications and future solutions: monitoring, logging, backups, incident response, maintain access control, authentication, and permissions.

  • Establish basic operational discipline and maintainable engineering standards where they don’t yet exist: deployment processes, environment separation (dev/test/prod), documentation, and change control.

  • Apply security best practice across solution lifecycle - from secure coding through to infrastructure configuration (cloud hosting, secrets management, patching).

  • Be a creative contributor to the technical direction of the company at large.

Requirements

This is a great fit for someone who’s comfortable moving between hands-on support and hands-on building - someone who brings good judgment to a small team without heavy process, and is motivated to fix things regardless of whose job it technically is., Essential

  • 2-5 years of relevant professional experience in IT support, technology operations, or software development.

  • Experience supporting users, operating a service desk, triaging and working with ticketing systems (e.g. Jira).

  • Understanding of core security principles: authentication/authorisation, access management, secrets management, least-privilege access, secure handling of data.

  • Comfortable working with a small team without heavy process - able to use judgement and work autonomously, prioritise and work through tasks independently.

  • Strong communication skills, able to explain technical information to non-technical colleagues.

  • Good organisational skills with attention to detail.

  • Good troubleshooting, problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Willingness to learn new technologies and practices.

  • Desire to improve and fix things, regardless of responsibility area.

Desirable

  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, Entra ID, Active Directory, or Microsoft Intune.

  • Knowledge of cloud hosting platforms (Azure, AWS or GCP) - deploying, configuring, and monitoring applications.

  • Relevant IT qualification or certifications (CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft Fundamentals, or equivalent).

  • Exposure to compliance-adjacent work (data protection/GDPR, access audits) even if not a formal compliance role.

  • Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks or compliance standards (e.g. Cyber Essentials, ISO 27001, GDPR, SOC2).

  • Direct experience using Claude, GPT, or other LLM APIs and MCPs to build applications (Claude Code experience is a strong plus given our toolchain).

  • Working knowledge of at least one modern programming language (e.g., TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, SQL).

  • Practical experience with relational databases - schema design, queries, basic performance considerations.

  • Prior experience in a small business or startup environment, especially one transitioning off SaaS-only tooling.
