Design Engineer

Our client is a UK manufacturing business designing and building capital equipment for industrial applications. This role takes ownership of mechanical design from concept through to production, producing robust 3D models and manufacturing drawings, supporting prototyping, and resolving build issues on the shop floor. You’ll work closely with manufacturing, assembly and suppliers to deliver reliable, serviceable machinery and well-controlled design documentation., * Create 3D CAD models and detailed manufacturing drawings (assemblies, tolerances, BOMs) for capital equipment

• Lead concept development, design reviews, and design-for-manufacture improvements with production teams
• Specify materials, bought-out parts, and standard components; manage supplier technical queries
• Support prototype builds, first-off inspections, and fault-finding during assembly and commissioning
• Maintain engineering change control and drawing release using a PDM/PLM process

• Minimum HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent); degree desirable
• Proven mechanical design experience in manufacturing, ideally capital equipment or special-purpose machinery
• Strong 3D CAD capability (e.g. SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor) and confident producing manufacturing drawings
• Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and material/fastener selection for production builds
• Comfortable collaborating on-site with fabrication/assembly teams and managing design changes through release
