Back-End Software Engineer | Java, Kotlin, AWS

As part of a growing engineering function, they are looking to hire a Back End Software Engineers to help build and scale the services that power customer offerings. This is an opportunity to join a modern, cloud-native environment working on greenfield initiatives and product expansion projects with long-term scope beyond the initial contract.

About the Role

Joining a high-performing Agile engineering team, you’ll take ownership of Back End services that support the delivery of products to customers worldwide.

The role covers the full software development life cycle, from refining requirements and designing solutions through to development, deployment, monitoring and ongoing optimisation. You’ll work closely with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, testers and domain specialists to deliver scalable, reliable customer-facing services.

Engineers are empowered to own their work end-to-end and are expected to contribute to technical decision-making, system design discussions and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and enhance scalable Back End services using Java and Kotlin
• Build cloud-native applications and services within AWS environments
• Translate business requirements into robust technical solutions
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including refinement, planning and retrospectives
• Own features from development through to production deployment and monitoring
• Support testing activities and contribute to a strong engineering quality culture
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues based on customer and business impact
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, compliance and business stakeholders
• Contribute to improving platform performance, reliability and scalability

• Strong commercial experience with Java and Kotlin
• Experience working within AWS cloud environments
• Good understanding of CI/CD pipelines and modern engineering practices
• Experience developing and supporting production-grade Back End systems
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Experience working within Agile development teams
• Ability to take ownership and work independently

Desirable Experience

• AWS services such as Lambda, Fargate and cloud-native architectures
• Experience with observability, monitoring, SLIs and SLOs
• Knowledge of distributed systems and scalable service design
• Exposure to data-driven environments and analytics platforms
