Job description

Data Engineer £70,000 Fully Remote Permanent

We’re working with a well-established UK business that is investing heavily in modernising its data and technology estate, and they’re looking for a hands-on Data Engineer to join the team.

This is not a Lead Data Engineer role and there’s no people management involved. They’re looking for someone with a few years of solid SQL Server and ETL experience who can take ownership of an existing data environment while developing further into cloud data engineering.

You’ll initially help maintain a business-critical Microsoft data estate, working with SQL Server, SSIS, stored procedures and ETL pipelines, but the longer-term opportunity is where things get particularly interesting.

The business is moving further into AWS and is embarking on a major Oracle ERP transformation, which will ultimately replace much of the legacy environment. You’ll have the chance to work alongside experienced Data Engineers and progressively build your skills across cloud ETL, Python and modern data platforms.

What they’re looking for:

  • 3-5+ years’ experience in Data Engineering / ETL
  • Strong SQL Server and T-SQL skills
  • Experience working with SSIS packages
  • Confidence debugging stored procedures and existing data pipelines
  • Good understanding of ETL concepts
  • Comfortable taking ownership of BAU and existing systems
  • An interest in developing further into AWS / cloud data engineering

Nice to have:

  • Python
  • AWS
  • Power BI
  • ERP integration experience

You don’t need a finance background and you don’t need to have spent your entire career working in BI.

Up to £70,000 Fully remote Monthly team meet-up in London, travel expenses covered Permanent role with genuine opportunity to develop into a modern cloud data environment

The interview process is straightforward: an initial conversational interview followed by a live SQL exercise focused more on how you think and communicate than getting every answer perfect.

If you’re a Data Engineer with strong SQL / SSIS foundations and want a role where you can build on that experience rather than stay stuck in a legacy environment, get in touch.

Burns Sheehan Ltd will consider applications based only on skills and ability and will not discriminate on any grounds.
