Job description

Nature & Purpose of Position Performs complex administrative and supervisory program work for the Department of Clinical Skills. Primary Responsibilities Leads the technical and operational execution of simulation based education by overseeing the setup, operation, troubleshooting, facilitation, and breakdown of all simulation activities, including equipment, supplies, audiovisual systems, moulage, and related documentation. Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots high fidelity simulators, task trainers, audiovisual capture systems, simulation software platforms, and associated instructional technologies to ensure continuous functionality during educational activities and assessments. Provides hands on support for simulation infrastructure, including computer based systems, network connected simulation equipment, A/V systems, and integrated instructional technologies used across the Clinical Skills and Simulation environment. Collaborates with faculty, staff, university IT services, and external vendors to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical issues involving simulation systems, hardware, software, A/V systems, and network connectivity. Communicates technical issues, system limitations, and resolution strategies clearly and efficiently to users with varying levels of technical expertise, including faculty, students, administrators, and vendors. Supports simulation operations including scheduling coordination, inventory management, equipment preparation, room setup and turnover, and maintenance of simulation lab readiness. Maintains, upgrades, and tests simulation related hardware and software systems, including workstation imaging, system updates, and integration of new technologies to ensure operational reliability. Operates simulation management platforms and A/V recording systems to support learner assessment, debriefing, and educational review. Supports data tracking, documentation, and reporting of simulation activities, equipment usage, maintenance logs, and operational performance metrics. Ensures compliance with operational standards by performing routine equipment maintenance, calibration, system checks, and preventive upkeep of all simulation technologies. Assists in evaluating, implementing, and supporting emerging simulation technologies including virtual reality, instructional software, and advanced clinical training tools. Provides technical training and support to faculty, staff, and students on the use of simulation systems, audiovisual equipment, and instructional technologies. Supports the technical and operational delivery of clinical skills training at the Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Responsible for the setup, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and integration of simulation technologies, audiovisual systems, instructional technologies, laboratory simulators, and related infrastructure used in simulation activities, student assessments, and educational programs. Assists with simulation and laboratory planning, scheduling, inventory management, equipment maintenance, and the preparation and breakdown of supplies and resources for educational activities. Works collaboratively with the Director of Clinical Skills, Standardized Patient Coordinator, Administrative Coordinator, faculty, university technology services, and external vendors, the position ensures the reliability, functionality, and continuous improvement of simulation and clinical skills operations. Performs other related duties as assigned. Other Specifications Performs other duties as assigned in support of the Clinical Skills Training and Simulation programs to ensure continuity and efficiency of daily operations. Utilizes Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook for scheduling support, documentation, reporting, communication, and operational tracking. Maintains working knowledge and hands on support of simulation platforms and systems including SimCapture, Laerdal, Gaumard, and other comparable simulation technologies used within healthcare education environments. Assists with the development and maintenance of instructional content and training materials using Articulate or similar eLearning authoring tools to support simulation-based education and faculty development. Participates in ongoing training, vendor provided education, and professional development to remain current on simulation technologies, audiovisual systems, and instructional technology trends. Supports data collection, reporting, and documentation activities to assist with accreditation requirements, program evaluation, and continuous quality improvement initiatives. Demonstrates the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies, systems, and software platforms in a fast-paced simulation and educational environment. Prior IT experience in system administration, technical support, audiovisual systems, networking, or enterprise level user support is strongly preferred and considered a significant asset for this position. Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Educational Technology, Healthcare Simulation, Healthcare Administration, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field. Three years of experience in a related field. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.
