Job description

Amentum is seeking a Telecommunications Engineer to support the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) Mission in West Palm Beach, FL. AUTEC is a Major Range and Test Facility Base (MRTFB) and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division Newport’s largest single team project, providing both deep and shallow water test and training environments. The Telecommunications Engineer is responsible for the operational readiness, maintenance, and security of all on-site communication systems, while supporting a remote site with troubleshooting, planning, and operations of communications equipment. This includes managing PBX systems, tactical LMR radios, secure wireless networks, and other systems. You will lead hardware and software upgrades, troubleshoot complex faults, and provide technical guidance to department technicians. This position reports to the Communications Manager and requires eligibility for a US Government security clearance. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government Clearance. Note: U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Maintain PBX telephone systems, voicemail, call accounting, digital intercoms, and CATV distribution networks.

  • Oversee tactical radio systems, including trunked LMR systems, base stations, and repeaters at primary site while working remotely.

  • Manage vertical and horizontal backbone topologies, fiber optic networks, and copper cable plants.

  • Coordinate hardware and software modifications and system upgrades for all site telecommunications.

  • Handle cryptographic systems and classified materials according to strict security protocols.

  • Provide technical assistance, hands-on training, and daily guidance to department technicians.

  • Perform preventive maintenance, corrective equipment repairs, and final testing using specialized diagnostic tools.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Communication Engineering or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum of 8 years working in a complex communication electronics environment.

  • Strong understanding of computer networking and computer architecture

  • Experience using TDR, OTDR, spectrum analyzers, and communication test equipment.

  • Exceptionally task-oriented, detail-focused, and able to work with minimal supervision.

  • Must be a US Citizen eligible for a US Government security clearance. Valid US Passport and Driver’s License required.

  • Travel approximately 10-20% to Andros Island, Bahamas or other military bases for installations as necessary.

  • Strong safety mindset

  • Works well with minimal supervision

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills including Word, Outlook, Teams, and Excel

  • Ability to lift, carry, and push up to 45 pounds.

  • Ability to reach above shoulders and climb using legs and arms to work on moving vessels.

  • Corrected 20/20 vision with the ability to distinguish colors for technical and wiring tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • COMPTIA Sec+ CE or other DoD 8570 II certificate

  • Experience with US Government COMSEC

  • Proficiency in RF, HF, VHF, UHF, satellite, and microwave theory

  • Experience with AVAYA CM6 digital switches

  • Active Government Secret Security Clearance preferred
