Job description

The Hardware Engineer role within Novanta R&A focuses on the development of robust, high-performance electronics for the different motion control products within the group. The position involves system-level design of motion control solutions and detailed design of control electronics, power management, and communication interfaces for industrial and medical motion applications. Working closely with cross-functional teams and customers, the role supports both standard platforms and customized solutions from concept through production, with a strong emphasis on reliability, manufacturability, and long-term product performance.

The selected engineer will be focused on collaborating with the operations team in quality and operational improvements of all the hardware designs of the stepper motors product line. The selected engineer will also collaborate in the design, implementation and verification of the new designs of potentially any of the R&A products. The position requires good hardware skills but also a deep understanding of design for manufacturing and reliability.

Come join a team of deeply knowledgeable engineers that strive to build the most reliable, efficient motion control systems using the newest development tools and practices as well as state of the art power electronics.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the hardware running the R&A products, with special focus on stepper motors
  • Design new and redesign existing electronic circuits, including schematic and layout.
  • Conduct detailed circuit analysis and optimize designs through effective component selection and performance evaluation, including circuit simulation.
  • Hands-on new hardware board bring-up, system debugging, and optimization.
  • Review and improve external documentation (Product manuals, Datasheets, etc.).
  • Improve internal documentation (Architecture, Detailed Design, etc.).
  • Define, in conjunction with the Quality Assurance team, the Test and Verification Plans.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams and stakeholders to align technical requirements and solutions.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and suppliers to support product development and integration.

Requirements

  • Ms or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Industrial Engineering, or technical related discipline
  • Minimum working experience 1 year
  • Experience with Electronic circuit technology design and assembly processes
  • Background in electrical power applications
  • Experience with PCB / PCA manufacturing processes
  • Experience in electronics verificaton and validation
  • Ability to write technical documents such as assembly instructions, test procedures, and test and analysis reports
  • Altium Designer proven experience
  • Fluent written and spoken Spanish and English.

Nice to have requirements:

  • Capacity to analyze a problem from multiple perspectives and explore creative solutions
  • Positive, proactive, and energic attitude
  • High attention to detail with a desire for excellence
  • Experience in Version Control Systems (Git, SVN)
  • General Motion control or robotics knowledge (motors types, feedbacks, controls, etc.).
  • Industrial communication protocols (EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP, Profinet, CANOpen)
  • Experience in Certification Process (CE, UL, Safety, etc.)
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
