Job description

The position of Network Systems Administrator at Trinity College will be expected to support and evolve our enterprise network environment, which spans wired and wireless network and security platforms. This role is responsible for the day-to-day management of switching, wireless controllers and access points, routing, NAC, and firewalls, while maintaining network reliability and security for our users and evolving our systems to keep up with current technologies. The position is part of the Infrastructure team and will also work closely with the Digital Campus team and external vendors on all aspects of network infrastructure. The ideal candidate combines strong hands-on networking skills with a systems-oriented mindset and the ability to operate across both logical and physical infrastructure domains., * Management of the wireless network, including but not limited to controllers, access points, network access control, and SSIDs.

  • Management of wired network, including but not limited to switches, routers, BGP, and network access control.
  • Management of LAN and WAN firewalls, including but not limited to rule writing, troubleshooting, and threat hunting.
  • Monitor systems for anomalies and proactively resolve network issues.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies to support college modernization and future-facing services.
  • Maintain the College’s extensive fiber plant that serves all 80+ buildings on campus.
  • Empower users and colleagues to solve L1 issues and collaborate with infrastructure and helpdesk colleagues on L2 and L3 tickets to support day-to-day operations.
  • Documentation of campus network and fiber optic plant.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned and based on departmental needs.

Requirements

  • Vocational or Technical Training, required
  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferred
  • 1-3 years of work experience
  • Demonstrated technical skills related to switching, routing, firewall management, wireless management, network access control rule building, and troubleshooting
  • Ability to work in teams and collaborate with others within the division and across campus
  • Ability to work independently and proactively
  • Good communication practices within and outside of the division
  • Excellent customer service skills, with a clear understanding of ITIL principles, For all faculty positions, completion of the Ph.D. or appropriate equivalent is expected. Candidates should have a strong commitment to undergraduate and interdisciplinary teaching in a liberal arts context, and a well-articulated plan for sustained research.
